better than here comes the boom
I was not impressed with this movie at all. But in saying that it is only my opinion.
Really interesting film with less about boxing and more about descructive realtionships within families. Christian Bale was excellent!!!!!
Enjoyed this one very much.
Good movie. Enjoyed the play with relationships between the main 3 characters; Christian Bale was a standout.
Really great movie. The acting was superb, Bale was a standout, and the script was well executed. The story didn't lag at all and the fight scenes weren't boring or drawn out. A really enjoyable movie.
Loved, Loved Loved this movie! It was a great Inspirational True story!
The movie was a disappointment. The acting (especially by the mother) was excellent but a lot of the dialogue was difficult to hear and the fight scenes were a bit weak. That may have been due to miscasting. I like Mark Wahlberg but this film was not my cup of tea.
How good was Christian Bale he played the part to a T, when you see the reel character at the end of the movie it's like looking into a mirror. The matriarch of the family is such an unlikeable person you wanted to scream (any wonder she beat Jackie Weaver for the Oscar) the performances from the hole cat are exceptional but bale as the broken own fighter with a drug problem is outstanding and if you like a happy ending you get that as well.
Has been boxer with drug habit threatens to derail his brother’s budding boxing career. Nicely observed drama (based on a true story) that is another case of Christian Bale undergoing physical change for his role. 3.5 stars
Perfect Casting, Performances, Music, and true story.
Really worth a watch considering based on true story.
Great acting....Great story. Keeps you watching
Don't mean to be rude but im tired of people saying a good movie is bad cause of some swearing!......the fighter is not about cinderella or snow white ,or mary's little lamb.great movie even with a few naughty words.........lol!
Underdog wins title - no surprises there - but watch it for the warmhearted recreation of a working class family in a working class neighbourhood. Christian Bale's performance alone makes this a must–see movie.
Great movie. Wahlberg is fine but Bale steals the show with a memorable performance.
Good story. Well worth watching to the end. Slow start. Almost turned it off after the first 20 minutes, but the main actors were great. Micks family members were really annoying, but maybe thats how it really was in real life. Not sure if i'd recommend it anyone not into boxing though.
Not really my cup-of-tea- unnecessary swearing throughout the movie. Good acting- Christian Bale, although I wanted to throttle him, did a excellent job. But, I do enjoy a movie based on real people and stories. :)
The Fighter is an excellent story about boxing, family and ambitions. Wahlberg is fantastic, but Christian Bale is even more excellent. The direction and writing also shines. Highly recommended.
Gritty look at a true Boxing story, well acted and interesting story. The real people that the story was about appear at the end, nice.
Excellent movie strong language
Enjoyed it from start to finish
I thought this movie was so well portrayed..it was fantastic..what a great cast...great acting..highly recommend this movie..one man's is another's inspiration!!
Great diaglogue and acting, worth watching.
Character portrayals were second to none and well executed. Bale deserved every bit of his Oscar win here, Walhburg was in excellent form as was Amy Adams. Great story from beginning to end.
I like anything Mark Wahlberg does and you have to admire Christian Bale's dedication to making his character believable as a junky. Based on a true story which makes it more interesting.
Based on a traue story with some great acting performances ie: Christian Bale is at his brilliant best.
great movie highly recommend
Excessive swearing, not warranted in my opinion, in particular the women.
Only just a movie, not recommended. Not one for the kids to watch.
Very good movie. Mark W plays a great part. Quite funny in parts but the story is really good. Worth watching.
It had it's moments. But overall, found it a little boring. Slow start, but towards the end gets better!
Loved this movie. A must to see.
Had difficulty understanding plot
A very good film. Rocky with a lot of realism and excellent acting. The characterisations were terrific, and yes there are some awful characters, but that is half the fun, they think they are the normal people. Intereresting family dynamics plus a story of redemption.
although I don't loke boxing, I really enjoyed "The fighter".Based on a true story and the acting was very good.
This movie is well-worth persevering with to the end.
A gritty and real portrayal of a blue-collar town and the dysfunctional dynamics of a large family. Without knowing the history behind the movie (which we didn't), it's hard to predict how it will end. The quiet character of Micky is dominated by the poor decisions of his ebullient mother and older brother, both played brilliantly and harrowingly. Slowly, Micky breaks free, with feisty Charlene in his corner, but then Dicky is back, out of jail and clean.... Dicky's return is like a knife-edge, and the scene with the cake and the crack-house is pivotal.
A few criticisms: in the final "interview" scene, Dicky has rather a wide-eyed look that we thought indicated he was back on the crack (he wasn't); also the rolling street scene at the beginning was a bit "cheesy".
The DVD included a director's commentary which was fascinating. Mickey O'Keefe, the cop/trainer, was played by himself, as were several of the minor characters. Other minor characters were played by Lowell locals. The fight scenes were essentially played according to history.
This movie surprised me, I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. I mean obviously it has a very good cast so I knew (or assumed anyways) it would be decent. I REALLY enjoyed it. Well worth a watch, highly recommended.
It was, for me, surprisingly a great movie. To fully appreciate it, you do need to see it through right until the end and see the journey all of the characters take, growing in their own unique ways. Wahlberg's character, Mickey, is a man of many colours. He begins as Robin to his brother's Batman, playing second fiddle in many ways to his "local legend" brother Dickie. But as the movie plays through and Mickey meets a few people who believe in him, not just his brother, he starts believing in himself too and backing himself to carry through with a Title shot in the boxing world he lives and breathes. And he stands up to his family, who have spent far more time idolising his brother Dickie than acknowledging Mickey has any talents of his own, at least to be much better than just a "fall guy" or "stepping stone" for other fighters to climb over on their way to the top. Amy Adams does a great job being the strong, feisty new girlfriend, who supports Mickey in his journey too, and Christian Bale does a great job too, as the somewhat has-been, down-and-out, and rough-diamond boxer / older brother to Mickey. The viewer is encouraged to dislike Mickey's unsupportive, rough and somewhat uneducated family at first; however, by the end of the movie, we find ourselves feeling a little more compassion for them and understanding, just as they do too for Mickey. The Fighter is an entertaining and interesting movie, presenting the true story of boxers Mickey Ward and Dickie Ekland.
Great movie. Quality acting.
a bit slow to start but just got better and better, really enjoyable movie.
Dreadful!!! What a pack of morons. I couldn't bear that family. I had to turn it off half way through as it was so nauseating!!
Good biopic based on a true story. Mark Wahlberg puts in a fairly decent performance as a low rent rocky clone with an appalling white trash family and a crack addicted "coulda been a contender" older brother as the millstone around his neck. Enjoyed the story and pleasantly surprised to find it based on a true story.
I really enjoyed this movie ... great story!!
Great movie really enjoyed this
Fantastic. Great characters and the perfect actors to portray them. I'd recommend this film to anyone.
This film starts so badly that after 5mins i'm thinking stinker and from the look on my wife's face she is thinking it to. However we persevered and by the end we were glad we had what a surprise. looks very low budget but really delivers.
Enjoyable - typical pugalistic tale of woe.
An excellent movie. I especially enjoyed the sensitive portrayal of the dynamics between family members, new loves and loyalties. Bale was excellent in his role as the older Eklund and Wahlberg did not disappoint. A surprising choice of role for Adams.
The only thing that marred the movie was the faulty DVD frame-freezing towards 3/4 of the movie.
This was good, but then I love Marky Mark!
Fantastic Movie. if you enjoyed the rocky movies you should this movie has the fight scenes but with more story including battles with addiction and family
Very good movie - great acting by Christian Bale
This movie shows what all hopefule and eventually successful boxers have to go through! Well portrayed by Wahlberg & Bale!!
Great movie. Not usually my type but it had it all. Good well developed characters, exciting fights and feel good ending.
Fantastic acting from Christian Bale. Fab movie, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Too much up like a reality program - it takes away the appeal for me but a good story nevertheless
Marky Mark, topless and sweating.. what's not to like?! I liked him, his character and his acting.. I loved the dude that played his bro', who was a believable junkie has-been. His sisters were hilarious, and reminded me of the '80's at 'the Chevron'.. what happened to all that hair?????
This was a good movie!
Loved it although the fight scenes could have been more real
I can see why Chrisian Bale won the oscar for Best Support with his portrayal of Dicky - particularly when you get to see a clip of Dicky at the end. However, overall - even though the performances were good - this movie failed to captivate me. Perhaps this could be because the subject matter - boxing - doesn't interest me much, and the boxing movie has probably been pretty much been done. If you are into boxing or Boston this film will be for you.
This movie was rather boring and unless you are really into boxing it wasn't that interesting even though it is based on a true story.
I'm not into fighting, but this film is good
Very good movie. My wife and I both really enjoyed this movie. Best in a long time. Maybe a big call but for a boxing movie... better than Rocky.
Similiar to Black Swan i was putting off watching this film even though i knew it was supposed to be good. However i found it well worth the time, mainly due to a tour de force from Christian Bale who steals every scene he is in. This film may divide audiences a little so it is hard to recommend, though i thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Christian Bale was the star of this movie. Stand out performance. Loved the movie too :)
We really enjoyed it. Christian Bale's acting was extraordinary. I forgot that he was acting and you really thought he was that person. Definately recommend.
I really enjoyed this movie, especially as it was related to a true life experience.
This movie was a bit slow at the start, but the movie really built to a great ending. It had me smiling at the end! A great film for a bloke and even the chicks will love it!
Great movie. Didnt want it to end. Christian Bale and mark Whalberg were amazing
The strong suit of this movie is the acting of Christian Bale. Can you believe this guy plays Batman? He is just fabulous as Dicky Ward, and is more than ably supported by Melissa Leo as his indulgent mother. Rightfully awarded with Oscars, the Ward family has a distinctly Aussie bogan feel about it, and we laughed every time there was a group shot of the sisters. Terrific.
This movie was very real; the characters very believable, and I loved how it all came together in the end.
A great heart warming show.
The movie was very creative and had a great story line, however it drags on for a bit
A great family drama unfolds amidst the struggle of a boxer to reach the top. Ultimately it's a feel-good flick, but a rocky road to get to the end. It really is all about Christian Bale's character, and while Marky Mark is acceptable, Bale is exceptional. I always knew he was an actor to watch, and watching him in "The Fighter" is riveting. Surprisingly funny, warm and touching, you can't go past "The Fighter".
Enjoyed this very much, good story
Although Christian Bale won the best actor award at this year's "Awards" I did not believe he suited that role. Apart from this a felt the film was slow moving except for the end
Thought it would be a great movie for hubby but I loved it also. Fantastic acting.
OK and worth a watch with the boys if you like the fight world
Good movie, kick back and escapist
Excellent true story enjoyed it
to much story and not enough fighting not as good as what i thought it would our been.
Good movie I think mark wahlberg is a great actor, christian bale played the part well.
My partner and I both loved this movie. We found it entertaining, realistic and the acting from all characters was great. Totally recommend this one!
Great movie from Mark Warlburg
He is very good as an aging boxer who made good
Cristian Bale is very good as his ex-boxer turned drug addict brother
Definitely a good blokes movie
myself and husband really enjoyed this movie. I would recommend it!
Not gripping, thrilling or exciting at all. Mark Wahlberg makes the movie, without him I would have fallen asleep. My hubby did doze off on more than one occasion. Reserve this one for a sunday hangover or the flu.
Great movie! Christian Bale deserved has 'Best Supporting Actor' Academy award, although he is not a very likable character. In fact, most of the family are a bunch of losers. The only actors that you can warm to are Mark Wahlberg (in the lead role) and Amy Adams (as his girlfriend). His family certainly didn't help him much for most of his career. Highly recommended!
Fantastic movie! Christian Bale was amazing but very annoying in his role as the brother - deserved his academy award!
This is based on a true story which makes it more compelling. The family certainly had a bond going and they banded together. It was a good movie. At one stage I wasn't quite sure where it was going however it turned out great for both of them at the end.
Excellent film with a heartwarming ending. Not surprising that Christian Bale got an Oscar for his role, his performance was brilliant.
A mostly unappealing story about very unappealing people. Yet as it goes on - as in their life - they turn things around for the better, rescuing the movie from total mediocrity. The two principal actors are remarkably like the real people, as they appear in one of the extras on the DVD.
Not what i expected. I couldn't watch a bunch of yobbos and had to turn it off although i am a huge Mark Whalberg fan. Sorry Marky Mark. FAIL
great movie, but what a bunch of ugly sisters,,,arrggghhh!
I really enjoyed The Fighter - interesting and unpredictable plot; intriguing characters; well written and wonderfully acted. Great performances from Marky Mark and Amy Adams but Christian Bale as the crackhead brother was my favourite. And that mother - even more of a scary matriarch than Jacqui Weaver's Smurf in Animal Kingdom! Oh, and the best thing: it's not really about boxing.
