Mild themes and coarse language

Director: Danielle Karalus
Actors: Aamer Rahman, Nazeem Hussain

Comedians Aamer Rahman and Nazeem Hussain are Fear of a Brown Planet. This is their debut DVD, filmed at the 'Chapel off Chapel' in April 2001. Tackling topics of immigration, race relations and the war on terror head on, Fear of a Brown Planet provokes and entertains audiences with an anarchic take on politics and race, at home and abroad. Uncompromising, ruthless and cheeky.

I was disappointed with this as instead of rising above the racism undoubtedly experienced by immigrants in Australia, it relied heavily on reversing it - so it was heavily racist against 'white Aussies' and relied just as much on silly stereotypes - of course it was making a point, but it was labouring it and should have moved on. It also relied heavily on generalisations about 'brown' people - by which the two comedians seemed to mean Muslims. There was some simple confusion, claiming Muslims invented algebra, when they meant arabs - generations before Mohammed! I gave up on this recording before the end. Sorry guys. Could do a lot better.
