Teenagers selected for the prestigious NYC School for the Performing Arts arrive for their first day of tuition with dreams of stardom. Whether it's streetwise Coco (Irene Cara), timid Doris (Maureen Teefy), tortured soul Montgomery (Paul McCrane), macho Raul (Barry Miller) or soulful Bruno (Lee Curreri) they all have their insecurities and all face the same struggle to find their own identities. Set to the double Oscar winning music of Michael Gore (Best Original Score and Best Song) we follow the class of 1980 on their turbulent, sometimes tragic, sometimes uplifting journey towards graduation.

This film was not as good as i thought it was going to be especially with all the hype about it. Although the talent throughout the movie was spectacular to watch and enjoy the singing, dancing, playing and interesting what some of the people went through but not a movie i would probably watch again, once you know how it ends there is nothing left to excite you to watch it again, if you can understand what i mean. Good to watch it one time or if you are in those exact kind of situations.

Basically a good idea and a good movie, but spoiled as entertainment by gratuitous and excessive use of the "F" word - and I don't mean fame.

This movie is tip top. If you liked the 80s you'll like it, kids dancing on cars in the street etc. Not at all believable but who cares, They are dancing on cars!!!!!

I thought this film was about nothing. I sure hope the stage show is a lot better. The film definately wasn't all it was cracked up to be in my opinion.
