Overhyped boring rubbish that is another one of those "not as good as I remembered it" movies. Banderas is about the only good thing. In its day this movie was a bold artistic crossover attempt in its style and it contained the biggest pop icon of the time. Age has not been kind to this film.
Fabulous movie. Madonna is wonderful, a marvellous blend of fragility and strength comes through, and so is Banderas, with his anger and contempt. He's so powerful in this role; I enjoy the way he looks at the audience demonstrating his contempt for Evita and the weak men around her. Loved the look of it, the music, and the words especially, the irony and hypocrisy of the time, all came through beautifully. Can't believe I waited 16 years before seeing it. The play was marvellous (seen a very long time ago) but the movie did it justice. (Not like Chicago film, which was a dreadful copy of the stage musical, no comparison.) One of the best film musicals.
A brilliant creation of the Peron times. I've not seen the stage show but found the film immensely satisfying. Although fictional as far as dialogue goes the history seems quite correct. Madonna gives a great performance. For me though the star of the show is the soundtrack and orchestration. Webber's scoring ensures the backing never interferes with the lyrics - a common error - and listen for the superb playing by the bass guitarist, it underpins the scenes time and again. An imaginative and satisfying musical, I would place it in my top 10.
A sumptuous film with outstanding performances by Madonna and Banderas. lloyd Webber's music comes across as garish in a couple of scenes, and I felt the direction was simple, when it could have been so much better. Madonna portrays the human side of a phenomenal public figure probably hated by as many as she was loved.
did not like this at all.
Not for everyone, but a sumptuous film with a great performance by Madonna. Andrew Lloyd Webber's music isn't too crash hot in this musical though, it's almost discordant at times.
I fell asleep! I'm a Madonna fan (ok, maybe not of her acting ability), but this movie was just awful.
The songs are really bad and I have no idea who Antonio was supposed to be.
Still a great show, well done and very watchable
Having seen & loved it a couple of times on stage, I was a bit apprehensive about the portrayal of Eva Peron by Madonna, but I was very impressed. She turned in a first rate performance & was very believable in the title role & proved that she is a talented & versatile actress, as well as a singer, though she has not followed up with anything nearly as good. I liked the style of storytelling, with Che (Antonio Banderas) talking/singing directly to us through the camera. He also was very good.
Lloyd Webber should be ashamed of the music in this. I Should have known better than to get anything with Madoona
An interesting movie, but defintely not everyone's cup of tea. Something to watch when you are bored.
