High impact sex scenes, themes and drug use

Director: Gaspar Noe
Actors: Paz De La Huerta, Nathaniel Brown

Written and directed by Gaspar Noé, and labeled by Noé as a 'psychedelic melodrama', ENTER THE VOID stars Nathaniel Brown in his debut role, Paz de la Huerta and Cyril Roy, also in his first role on film. The story is set in Tokyo and focuses on Oscar, a young American drug dealer who gets shot by the police, but continues to watch over his sister Linda as a ghost. The camera follows Oscar from behind his head during scenes in which he is alive. After his death, the view hovers over Tokyo through walls and across buildings.

The worst movie I have ever seen! Get out anything else unless you are preparing to get very stoned before watching this film. One star really is too much.

Worst ever - left me feeling depressed and utterly detached from life. Had to watch over 5 comedy films to get over the time I wasted with this piece of trash.

If you're familiar with Gaspar Noe's style and like his work then you will love this one. If this is your first time watching one of his films then open your mind for something a bit different than the generic eye-candy Hollywood has to offer.

I loved Irreversible. This was nothing near the calibre of that movie. Self indulgent dross is the best way I can describe it. One star is too many.

A western junkie in Japan meets his maker. Excruciatingly self-indulgent filmmaking that eschews plot for improvisation and endless hand held camera movement. Rather pointless. 2.5 stars

If your brain has been irreperably damaged by drugs you will enjoy this surrealistic nonsensical journey to nowhere.

OK, first things first, this was clearly a drug movie and since I wasn't on drugs when I watched it, I might not have got the intended effect. Lots of colorful lights (this is Tokyo, mostly), muffled sound, claustrophobic camerawork (mostly hovering overhead), drugs/sex/violence. I was willing to take the ride, following the central character who has just died and is apparently tracking events afterward (as possibly suggested by the Tibetan Book of the Dead), but then it just went on too long -- way too long -- and became increasingly plot-less and boring and ultimately pretentious.

Interesting concept. Glad I wasn't an epeleptic or it would likely have triggered a fit. The constant strobing detracted from what potentially might have been a good movie.

One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. Gasper Noe's movies always have a somewhat eerie, intoxicating effect, but Enter The Void takes it to another level. Brilliant concept, brilliant execution. I absolutely love this movie, cannot wait to see what Monsieur Noe comes up with next!
