Sad and mixed up emotions for this one. Very long but nice love story.
Long, drawn out affair. Frustrating,
There are many disparate plot strands that gradually come together over the course of this layered film. WW2 is a backdrop to a love story that was always fated to lead to disaster. The settings are magnificent: the lush Italian countryside; the vast expanses of the Sahara Desert; and the narrow dusty streets of Cairo where the action sizzles. The story, told mostly in flashback, is complex without being confusing, and the characters are unfailingly fascinating. This is a spellbinding sumptuous banquet of a movie that sticks closely to the book.
Watched it years ago with my wife and loved it. Watched it again and still good, but a bit slow and drawn out in parts.
Can't say I quite understand why this movie won Best Picture, but it still is a pretty good watch. Never boring, nice story and great acting and direction. Recommended, but don't expect too much.
I enjoyed it, but found it a little long.
Seen before and still one of my favourite movies. greta plot and gorgeous sad love story.
This is a great movie. One of the best love stories that I've seen (maybe the second best after Casablanca). Performances are awesome and the story is unpredictable and full of energy.
Totally lost in this movie, long drawn out movie
Went along to the movie not expecting that much of it and a quarter way through it I was feeling vindicated until the film shifts several gears into maximum overdrive. To me this film is at least 25% better than any other film ever made - this review for you Anthony Minghella, you took filmmaking to a new level - the da vinci of the modern age.
A fantastic film. Totally original story, impossible to predict what was going to happen next. The acting was superb , and the settings beautiful. Perhaps a bit too long, but well worth the time.
This was a good movie, one you can again and again.
Well worth watching but could have been condensed a bit!
while it still can't beat the actual storyline of the book, this is a great movie that can (and maybe should!) be watched independently of the Ondaatje novel.
Hauntingly told tale ,with appropriate music score.
Much better than the novel itself.
It is long, but I was interested throughout most of it. If you have the time, you should get comfy and settle in.
Everyone has to see this at least once. A modern classic. WOW
A beautiful movie with great acting, scens and plot. Lots of people to really like in this movie.
I was riveted to my seat throughout.
Enjoyed this, but a bit slow in places.
The quality of the filming was ruined by the pathetic acting, especially pretend American, South African, Canadian and English accents. I'd have to put myself in a specific frame of mind to sit through this.
I know this film was nominated for 9 Academy awards and has rave reviews, but my wife and I just couldn't get into it. Too slow and too much chopping and changing for our liking.
Nothing like I expected, but it is one of those rare "flash-back" movies that is really well done and you can follow what is going on. Cast do a good job with the characters and the scenery is great, especially in Egypt.
It's sooooo long. And nothing much happens. Only for fans of Brideshead Revisited, and the like.
