Director: Alan Moyle
Actors: Anthony LaPaglia, Liv Tyler, Renee Zellweger, Robin Tunney, Rory Cochrane, Johnny Whitworth

The director of Pump Up the Volume cranks it up another notch with this comedy about an eventful day in the lives of the young slackers, doers and dreamers who work at the bustling store called Empire Records.

"This music is the glue of the world", one of Emprire's clerks says. "It holds it all together". Gin Blossoms, The Cranberries, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Cracker, Evan Dando, Better Than Ezra and more hot alternative rock underscores virtually every scene.

Anthony LaPaglia (The Client) plays the coping manager of a staff played by Liv Tyler (Armageddon), Renee Zellweger (Jerry Maguire), Rory Cochrane (Dazed and Confused) and more fresh talents.

I love this movie because it doesn't try to be something 'big and important' - It is what it is. Simple storyline (very similar to The Breakfast Club) one day in a record store Brilliant soundtrack - chock full of awesome one-liners (Rory Cochrane as Lucas has always been the standout to me) The acting is "superb" (if you have seen it then you will understand that quote). If you have not seen this yet and you enjoy movies that aren't pompous and so far up their own a** to be"Oscar-worthy" then "the time to hesitate is through!"

Utter rubbish! I persisted with this dribble for about 45mins, and switched it off. I guess you can't judge a movie by its cast!

There is not much of a story going on. I liken this movie to watching Big Brother ie. just a bunch of layabouts enjoying life and not achieving much. The music tracks are worth listening to though! I recommend this movie for teenagers only.
