War themes, violence and sexual references

Director: John Maybury
Actors: Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller, Cillian Murphy, Matthew Rhys

Two feisty, free-spirited women are connected by the brilliant, charismatic poet who loves them both. The passion and pathos of legendary poet Dylan Thomas is told through the lives of two extraordinary women. Vera Phillips (Keira Knightley) and Dylan (Matthew Rhys) were teenage loves; fast forward ten years and the two reconnect in London. She's working as a singer whilst he's churning out scripts for government propaganda films, and living off the last in a long line of infatuated women. The two former lovers feel the thunderbolt once more, but Thomas is now married to the adventurous Caitlin (Sienna Miller). Despite their love-rival status, the women form a surprising friendship.

So boring - never turn movies off before the end but this one was a first. Don't waste your time.

Didn't mind the poetry when I was at school. Found the movie and the story line boring. Couldn't get 10 mins into it.

It is really rare that I actually switch a movie off before the end. I've been known to sit through very slow-moving 3-hour films, loving every second and thankful that the director was not in a hurry, because it suited the pace of the story and there was enough going on visually to engage me. But this - dear God! Dismal, plodding, and the usual inadequate performance of Keira Knightley (how does that girl continue to get gigs???). Though I have to say her Welsh accent was better than I would have expected. I persevered for about 50 minutes and just couldn't take any more. I should mention I've read biographies etc on Dylan Thomas and actually have an interest in him - so it wasn't the subject matter that was lacking. It was just a really, REALLY dull film.

Boring. Got halfway through it and the disk stopped working. I tried to get it working a couple times and then wondered why I was bothering, as I couldn't have cared less what happened to any of the characters.

So boring! Absolute waste of time. Keira Knightley's accent was embarrassing to watch. My sister and I just laughed at it. I think she's a great actor but chose a really boring script and role to play here, and no good at playing this accent. I should have listened to other reviews about this before hiring. Disappointment....

Very slow moving movie but in keeping with the times. Keira Knightly acted the part brilliantly. not to much comment about the rest although I have to admit it was a good insight to the lives of some young people during the London Blitz.

While this movie is pleasant enough to look at and well enough acted, there is not enough story or substance to keep me interested. The 10 minutes towards the end that is actually interesting was not enough to make me recommend this film.

a promising film which just does not deliver....long and tedious, acting was a bit 'forced' for my liking...

A story about a love "square" between two couples during/after the war.

While a little all over the shop in terms of genre, I was pleasantly suprised by this interesting little number. For all her notoriety, Sienna Miller is rather amazing to look at on celluloid - even if ther character is a little tiresome. Definitely worth a look see.

Slow moving for the first hour and very slow for the rest of the film. Nevertheless... a good story based around Dylan Thomas, well acted and scripted, very evocative of the period.

I have to confess that Keira Knightly was not a favourite of mine untill recently watching The Duchess and I have warmed to her.I think in this role she is brilliant and shows strength and maturity which I thought had been lacking in her performances and puts her right up there now as a serious actor.Sienna Miller is also a delight in this film and the lead men play convincing friends and rivals at a time when a country is at war and everyone is on the edge..Great Viewing
