High impact violence

Director: James Watkins
Actors: Michael Fassbender, Kelly Reilly, Jack O'connell

City couple Jenny and Steve are eager to get away from it all. The idyllic, picturesque surroundings of EDEN LAKE seems like a perfect spot for a secluded, romantic weekend in the country until they realise the remote woodland isn't as deserted as they'd originally hoped. Soon their paths cross with a gang of local youths, who begin a campaign of terror on the couple. Suddenly the weekend begins to evolve into a sadistic game of survival and escalating violence, with a surprising and shocking climax. The UK answer to FUNNY GAMES EDEN LAKE is an intense and provocative horror/thriller that relentlessly feeds on modern fears and crosses over into territory that most contemporary films wouldn't dare to tread. I saw Kelly Reilly in "Flight" recently (she was terrific) and thought I'd catch up with other stuff she's done. This, supposed, thriller is highly unbelievable torture porn which doesn't make a lot of sense. It's very dark and would be terrifying if it wasn't so silly. No one has suffered so much as Kelly Reilly (and Michael Fassbender) in the history of cinema. This is a trashy piece. The director obviously saw Michael Haneke's "Funny Games" and thought he'd copy it. Don't bother,

Whilst I enjoyed this movie - and it certainly did make me squirm - I found it very disturbing. I look at the kids that live near me in Armadale and can imagine that some of them are quite capable of the violence that these kids carried out on the couple in the movie - as the circumstances were 'just right'. Sad, sad society. What has become of us!!

A decent attempt at funny games with a gang and quite scary but it falls apart in the final act with a family closer to American Psychos then the traditional English.

Horrible! The acting was good but I found the whole thing disturbing and not in a good way. All the coincidences were just stupid and made the movie very predictable. Hated the ending.

Disturbing...but recommended if you want to squirm in your seat for 80 mins. Hope this kind of thing doesn't happen on any of my future camping trips!

This was really good fun and had me much more engaged than I expected I would be. Set I think in Melbourne it provides a kind of documentary style "investigation" into something supernatural I was frankly scared enough by the end. Relies too heavily on interviews but still captivating.

All in all an unpleasant, nasty and sordid piece of film making. Whilst well acted the plot is a continaul spiral toward a disturbingly unredeaming ending. The overall result is an overtly violent, unsatisfying film that offers nothing in the way of redemption or entertainment, rather an unimaginative, nihlist piece of social commentary.

Really good suspensful moments, but..the amount of unbelievable scenarios, and sometimes down right retarded choices the main characters make. I mean there is just too much stupidity to take this movie seriously and very hard to believe.

Camping trip turns into a Deliverance type nightmare. Fast moving horror movie with some quite scary moments and violent episodes. The ending is a bit predictable. 3.5 stars

Relies a lot on the shock value of the cruelty of children. Still tight script some genuine shock moments, and just a little bit to realistic.

The movie was quite good. Had lots of suspense and gore, which kept you on the edge of your seat. Was really disappointed with the ending. I felt really sorry for Steve

This is a great film. Perhaps the characters could have been given a little more room to develop, but the tension and action on screen more than makes up for that. Beautifully shot too.

Best thrills in a long term. If you like a splashes of gore and a solid story this is for you. Don't read the blurb - just get into it!

Well this movie kept me on my seat but the ending really wasn't what I expected though now I don't know if they (the father) murdered Jenny or not...so the suspense is still there...the unknowing... Expected better acting from Steve (Michael) but Jennys acting was damn good. Worth watching if love thrillers.
