Steven Spielberg's first movie, very dated, but the acting ability of Dennis Weaver created a personal attachment to the viewer. Talk about road rage!! The last scene of the truck going over the cliff was awesome. At least it did not explode. This could and does happen to some people.

What an 'impact' movie! That was tailgating at its most extreme. An excellent Thriller, typically in the Spielberg genre. He was a genius way back then. Easily numbering in the top ten Thriller movies of my lifetime.

So suspenseful that you'd think the master himself, Alfred Hitchcock directed it. As one of his earliest films, Steven Spielberg proved that he was born to make movies. A truly thrilling classic that can be enjoyed again and again.

Simple but very effective movie that does a lot from a simple premise. It is suspenseful and keeps you guessing. Next time you are driving on a highway keep an eye on your rear-vision mirror!

I love this movie. Have seen it countless times and still enjoy it very much. Such a classic and so much more than just a truck chasing a car. An early one of Speilberg's showing his talent even back then. Dennis Weaver perfect for the role as well.

This film wasnt really my cup of tea...I was probably as fustrated as the poor guy in the car.It seemed to drag on and on and all it was about was a truck following and harrasing a car driver.

Classic - who'd have thought a car and a truck as the main attraction could be so riveting!

A made for TV drama later released to cinemas Duel has a dubious plot and minimal dialogue, but Steven Speilberg’s early directorial stint shows his skills in molding an edgy vignette. Most of the film is about a monster diesel truck steered by an unseen killer chasing the hapless driver in a red Valiant sedan. What surprised me was that my interest could be held so long. Somehow Speilberg weaves one suspenseful climax after another in the well-paced highway drama that finally screeches to a shattering conclusion. The action is heightened using tricky camera angles, illusions of speed and menace including frame-filling shots of the black fume belching horror truck or the pursued car and its terrified bourgeois driver, a mustachioed Dennis Weaver.

This thriller still holds up and is one of my favorite movies. Being Spielberg's first feature, it shows his talent, but also gives glimpses of an unfortunate trait he is to dwell on in later movies – the cliched stupid actions of the characters. For example, why would anyone do that, do this or walk backwards into a dark room. Luckily, Duel has only a smattering of this.

It takes a genius to make such a simple story line so effective as a thriller. I still get nervous when a semi gets too close to me

I love this film. It is so simple, yet brilliant. Like a Hitchcock thriller, the tension builds right throughout the film, never letting the audience relax. Spielberg had to persuade the studios to let him direct this low-budget movie, and he did such a great job they agreed to let him do more - thank goodness!!

Both Dennis Weaver and the truck are great actors. I found it a bit long and tenuous as the two had not been properly introduced. Worth watching.

Has Speilberg written all over it. Nostalgia had me revisit this one and I think it is fab. Took less than 2 weeks to film and is an early example of road rage at its' best/worst...

Clever and spellbinding. Speilberg was only a young man when he made this film, and it is one of his best.
