After escaping from near death Donnie Darko, a delusional high-school student, is visited by a demonic rabbit with eerie visions of the past, and deadly predictions for the future.

Donnie Darko is a disturbed adolescent from a semi-functional, upper-middle class family, gifted with a sharp intellect and vivid imagination but he is also a bit weird. Donnie's off his medication, and when his bedroom is obliterated by a falling airliner engine, he becomes increasingly delusional and convinced the world will end in 28 days. Aided by an imaginary friend, he embarks on an increasingly crazed series of actions, which horrify his teachers, scare his parents and amaze his friends.

A classic mystery with time and space turned upside down. Donnie Darko gets better with age and has perfect soundtrack to match. One of my top 20 films of all time.

It was a weird movie, I didn't really get anything by the end. The story doesn't really go anywhere.

Without doubt a very troubled human being, as the story unfolded was as much in the dark as Darko himself. The mysterious jet engine that found it's way into his bedroom seems to have had a life of it's own as it knew all the family and could even dream. Pity the director cut this one at all

It kind of got you in but didnt really go anywhere. I sat stunned at the finish wondering why did I bother. It promised so much but delivered nothing.

A bit too clever for me..I think I got it in the end!! Even if I didn't, it had me glued to my seat for the whole two hours. Well crafted movie that leaves you guessing, long after you finish watching it.

I don't know what to say about this movie. I saw it on TV a few years ago and didn't understand it. I decided to watch it again hoping it would make more sense. It didn't.

An enigmatic and slightly dark drama/thriller that you still won't fully understand after reading about it online. If you are the kind of person who has to understand a movie to enjoy it, then you will find it frustrating. A little like Butterfly effect but with a less mainstream appeal. It will appeal also to many sci fi fans.

As far as comparing this to the original version, I recommend the original. This movie seems like a cheap money making scheme, and most of the new scenes were included in the deleted scenes on the original dvd. They were deleted for a reason too... Still, it is a good watch for hardcore DD fans or people who haven't seen the original.

Not really my cup of tea. Parallel universe, a fracture in time-space continuum, living receivers ... oh the complexity of it all. This movie is sombre, has tons of symbolism and leaves it all up to the imagination of the viewer to explain just what was going on. Only worth a look if you are prepared to work hard to try to fathom it all out. Or, you can look up the web for the numerous interpretations !

Dark film. Didn't expect to like it, with it's reputation as a young 'cult film', but it really captured a mood that was both thought provoking and strangely compelling.

This has an excellent cast, intriguing story and a brilliant soundtrack. It was let down a little by the fact that it could have told the same story in a more accessible manner. I have to give this a "maybe" rating as its slow pace will not be suitable for many.

Wow! Not for the faint hearted looking for an easy film. This will challenge previous thought. I've watched it 3 times now and still come up with a new concept of what has happened to Donnie! One of my all time faves.

Could be an excellent movie if better actors were engaged. The story line is fantastic and sad towards the end. But I found it sort of jumped time often which when it did move ahead of time, it seemed to leave the story line unfinished.

Definitely better than the original. The inclusion of snippets from the book, "The Philosophy Of Time Travel", that is given to Donnie makes understanding the movie that much easier. I recommend using the "pause" button during those snippets as coming to grips with their content is central to following the movie. Yes, the movie is someone cerebral, but if you are after movie that will have you thinking about it for days after, then this is for you.
