Director: Spike Lee
Actors: John Turturro, John Savage, Giancarlo Esposito, Ossie Davis, Danny Aiello, Frankie Faison, Miguel Sandoval, Bill Nunn, Paul Benjamin, Ruby Dee, Spike Lee, Richard Edson, Joie Lee, Rick Aiello, Robin Harris, Rosie Perez

Idealised, individualistic look at life in the black community of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, where a white-owned pizza parlor flourishes... and where circumstance leads to an outbreak of hostilities on a sweltering summer day. Entertaining and provocative, with a much-discussed (and troubling) finale. Writer-director Lee also stars as Mookie, the delivery boy; his real-life sister Joie plays his sister in the film.

OK film but violent. I liked the points it made but it didn't really have a great plot or anything. It makes valid comments on people and racism but not points that would bring peace

I find director Spike Lee's huge emphasis on race relations to be very biased and exaggerated, but despite that I think this movie captures tensions amongst different people in the film pretty well. It places them in a not so great situation and you know things aren't gonna turn out well. Not one of the best films out there, but well worth the viewing.

Despite the fact that my disc "froze" many times during my viewing, this movie STILL got to me. A strong examination of race relations in a low class area of Brooklyn the movie points the finger at everyone and is more powerful for that. PS: I have reported a problem via the unsatisfactory problem reporting system on line- If you can get a new copy to view, I can recommend this to serious moviegoers.

This movie has a perfect tone. It deals with real, ugly issues of race and attitude, but is witty and vibrant, never getting bogged down in the seriousness of things. There is fun to be had amongst this chaotic neighbourhood. Spike Lee always makes me want to jump on a plane to the US after each one of his films. They exist in a world so different to my own.

Classic Spike Lee; thought provoking and kooky at the same time.
