High impact violence

Director: Xavier Gens
Actors: Lauren German, Michael Biehn, Milo Ventimiglia, Courtney B. Vance, Ivan Gonzalez, Michael Eklund, Rosanna Arquette, Ashton Holmes

In this violent post-apocalyptic thriller, nine tenants of a New York high rise apartment escape a nuclear attack by hiding out in the building's bunker-like basement. Trapped for days underground with no hope for rescue, and only unspeakable horrors awaiting them on the other side of the bunker door, the group begins to descend into madness, each turning on one another with physical and psychosexual torment. As supplies dwindle, tensions flare, and they grow increasingly unhinged by their close quarters and hopelessness, each act against one another becomes more depraved than the next. While everyone in the bunker allows themselves to be overcome by desperation and lose their humanity, one survivor holds onto a thin chance for escape even with no promise of salvation on the outside.

I'm all for a good horror film that rubs your nose in human misery like a dog that pooped on the carpet, but without a certain level of believability it just comes across as so much silliness and empty shock value. I'm not sure if this movie clears that bar but if it does the bar wobbles a lot and only stays on the uprights thanks to the acting skills of Michael Biehn. You really feel for his character, especially since he's put through even more torture than my high-jump metaphor.

A very depressing movie. Agree with all the comments - the interesting parts are not explained and is a key part of the movie. Suggest NOT to get this at all.

Starts well, and then drags. Would have been better as a short film? It does make some clever references to some famous movies. Depressing movie. I think the problem is that this movie arrived at the wrong time for me. With this service it’s the roulette wheel effect: You never know what state of mind you'll be in when you get the movie, and you want to watch it fast to get a chance at the next one... So sometimes you rush something you would have given more of a chance if you were feeling more "up". Depressing movie.

I love Michael Biehn and once again i was not disappointed, an outstanding performance, however the film was not enjoyable.

The characters are unredeemable and the setting bewildering. I'm sure the breakdown of the group is plausible but it does not make for great viewing. It was frustrating as the back story seemed really interesting but was only a passing glance in the whole scheme of things.

Weird, weird, weird. Some interesting things happen but the interesting things are not explained. (wont go into them here as i dont want to give away parts of the movie). the rest of the movie is boring and at times horrible.

What starts off as an interesting premise quickly descends into a depressing mess of a movie. What originality it shows at the start - with some striking visulas - it soon squanders in a mire of ugliness. In a word, bad.

dreadful movie, presumably meant to be about man's inhumanity to man but way over the top and ends up being a depressing load of rubbish about 2 sickos. complete waste of time :(

Nothing like the synopsis. Seriously, don't hire it unless you have insomnia or some kind of drugs (not that I'm promoting drugs)! Spent the movie waiting for the action/horror/suspense & it just dragged on meandering with little to no direction. I agree with Johnson's comments.

Survivors of a nuclear attack are grouped together for days in the basement of their apartment building, where fear and dwindling supplies wear away at their dynamic. The Twilight Zone did this 50 years ago and it was brilliant. Utter garbage. You have have to be on acid to watch this

Nick nailed it with his review (below) -- the opening was brilliant, the rest, hard to watch. I'm wondering if it was a stageplay converted to movie -- it only really takes place in a handful of rooms, and plays heavily on the emotional impact of being isolated from the rest of the world. "Lord of the Flies" for this generation... just not as interesting.

I really enjoyed this movie though I can understand the harsh comments listed in the reviews. This is not a normal apocalyptic movie, rather a movie about social dynamics, the fragile human mind, and how in times of extremity and survival humans can be pushed to do crazy things, You might think the story line is far fetched, that people wouldn't degenerate like this and behave in unspeakable ways? But if you read the stories about Hurricane Katrina's New Orleans Superdome, within days the thousands of people taking refuge inside had been witness to or victim of gang rape, rampant shootings and infanticide.. I think this movie poses some interesting questions.

Hardly an interesting movie because the storyline is very linear and predictable. That said the storyline has several gaps in-between, such as who are the people in suits and where did they come from - and why were they after children? Not a show I would recommend for watching even if National Lampoon is playing on the TV for the 20th time.

another bollywould ' freak out majorly under pressure' tediously boring scenario movie. i did watch to end but have strong regrets about doing so. Suggest only watching this if you are not bored yet and have nothing better to do (and anything will: watching grass grow is ok)

Truly awfull. I had a bad run this week, Melancholia followed by this utter rubbish. The directors obviously spent all their money on the 20s opening scenes of nukes going off and the last (totally pointless) two minutes of post-apocalyptic New York. Don't waste your time.

A gritty, nasty and sometimes brutal movie, this film has hardly any likeable characters in it and the ones that are,are the first to go. The suspense is sustained pretty well throughout but the ending is cold, callous and completely unsatisfying. Watch if you can stomach intense or hardcore storylines such as this one.
