Hell on Heels In the dizzying world of New York fashion, where size zero is the new 2, six is the new 8, and a bad hair day can end a career, Runway Magazine is the Holy Grail. Overseen with a finely manicured fist by Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) – the most powerful woman in fashion – Runway is a fearsome gauntlet for anyone who wants to make it in the industry. To make Runway the fashion bible of New York and therefore the world, Miranda has let nothing stand in her way…including a long line of assistants that didn’t make the cut. It’s a job no self-respecting person can survive, yet it’s an opportunity a million young women in New York would kill for. A stint as Miranda’s assistant could blast open the doors for recent college graduate, Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway). More college drab than haute couture, she stands alone among the small army of “Clackers” on staff at Runway – super slim fashion divas checking their stilettos down the halls of the magazine’s Manhattan headquarters. But when Andy comes in for the job, it dawn on her that making it in this industry will take more than drive and determination.

Really great chickflick. Some amazing fashion (I love the thigh-high leather boots that Hathaway wears). All of the actors are superb and I really feel for the conflict between career and commiting to your partner.

I read the book first, which always makes me like a movie less. The film wasn't as funny, and was less universal than the novel. I could relate to many of the situations the heroine in the novel found herself in because they were common to many different lines of work (a bad boss is a bad boss, whatever you do for a living), but the film was more specifically about the fashion industry. All in all, it wasn't a bad film. Decent performances, a few laughs, worth watching.

This movie is perfectly perfect.. Especially if you are hardcore into fashion, you will appreciate EVERYTHING this movie has to offer. The actors brilliant, clothes, shoes bags, perfect, perfect, perfect, what more could you ask for from a movie...Meryl Streep does the performance of her career..She plays evil and bitchy so brilliant. Anne Hathaway shines, as usual.. The only thing about it is the ending is too unrealistic, why the hell would you give up the glamorous, fabulous life to go be a boring bland newspaper reporter...Oh and her bf is so boring wanting to hold her back and basically have no style... One of the best films EVER!!!

I've always loved this film and the characters in it, but watching it again on TV last night confirmed the theme and setting of "Funny Face" with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire - I have a sneaking suspicion that this semi-autobiography by the author is in fact a direct copycat of the original movie. That's what I thought anyway.

I have never considered Meryl Streep a comedy actress but she is at times very funny in this. Another surprising movie that I enjoyed even though I did not expect it to be that good. Pity that most of us have had a boss ike that at some point.

Not great, but not bad either. A bit of fun, plenty of satire, and ending in a moral about life and love. Without the change in tone, it would have been very disappointing and shallow.

One of the best comedy dramas. The fashion industry is probably even crazier (and more insanely competetive) than even this film shows. Great acting from Streep. Hathaway does a good job if you can stand her appalling speaking voice. If I was the director I'd have her dubbed (or coached). Good supporting characters make this entertaining viewing.

What a shallow, vein, fickle little world the fashion industry is. "Everybody wants to be us" pouted Miranda. NO not everyone does, surprisingly enough, which Andy was eventually to discover. How right she was. Nevertheless an entertaining film to watch and Meryl streep was at her superb best.

Excellent film about the fashion industry. Shows how superficial this industry is, though the people working in the industry take it all so seriously. Great acting, especially Merle Streep - I was amazed at how she let herself be shown literally warts and all during a tough time in her life.

I loved this movie with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. I thought it was done down to perfection. Meryl was outstanding in her role and Anne Hathaway was as always perfect in her role. I totally believed the roles. In some movies I dont see the story they are trying to tell but this one I did. Anne Hathaway is becoming a great actress in her own right. Meryl, wonderful as always. Simon Baker was cute in his own right.

Don't expect the movie to be like the book at all. Basically the only similarities between the book and the movie are the main characters and setting (magazine office). The plot and action are completely different. So if you have read the book, don't expect the movie to stick to it at all. Enjoyable though, quite well cast (Glenn Close as the bitchy Editor is especially good).

I adore Anne Hathaway and initially she was the only reason I wanted to see the movie. Having never read the book I didn't know what to expect but I was blown away, this is in my top 5 movies of all time now. The story is told so beautifuly and I pretty much smilied the whole way through. I loved all of the characters, especially Nigel, who was played with self restraint by Stanley Tucci, and Merly Streep was just brillant. Anne was on the money and I adore her more than ever after seeing the movie.

A movie that has encouraged me to visit my library to borrow the book! To be brutally honest if you have seen the shorts, you have the movie..........one of those things that really annoys me about shorts!...........It's always great to see that whole Cinderella transformation thing happening, complete with evil stepmother/boss. It's when the evil person goes from being a one dimensional character to two that the movie really found its form for me. A movie that, for me, held my attention, amused me, touched me and at the end of the day made me reflect on my life!

I didn't think this one was worth they hype. Meryl Streep was good as the awful Miranda Priestly (and looked to have had a lot of fun with the role) but the rest of the acting was fairly wooden (with the exception of the excellent Emily Blunt in a supporting role). The plot was amazingly predictable and the characters all far too stereotypical for my liking. If you've nothing better to do give it a watch but otherwise try something else.

Light and frothy, but with very little substance. Meryl Streep plays her role well as the dragon lady. The movie can be seen, probably should be seen, as as a statire/critique of the fashion magazine business; and as such is fun. But don't expect anything profound.

Streep put in a solid performance as you would expect but I thought it was very ordinary, ( yes my wife agreed! ) story line shallow and limited humour, failed to hold your attention, if you liked high fashion and bitchy behaviour you might get something out of it. Not recommended
