The crew of an orbital satellite armed with nuclear weapons are called into service to launch their deadly payload when World War III erupts on earth. They fire all but one of their missiles, which malfunctions in the cargo bay. After losing all communication with the surface, and running out of supplies, the crew must choose between dying in space or forcing a re-entry that will put them right in the middle of the post-apocalyptic wasteland. They decide to re-enter, and crash their craft in the American wastelands. On the run from gangs of cannibals, the crew are captured by a ruthless warlord and imprisoned in his make-shift fortress. They must escape before the malfunctioning nuclear warhead of their last missile explodes in sixty hours.
