Death Sentence (2007)

If cartoonish violence ( it seems all the bad guys in this film are visually impaired based, since none of them can shoot straight) a turgid storyline and stereotypical characters are your thing, you'll love Death Sentence. The rest of us will wonder how lightweight director James Wan ever convinced both Kevin Bacon and John Goodman to lend their considerable talents to this exercise in mediocrity.

Couln't even finish watching this obvious piece of bad acting

It is obviously a revenge movie. Borrows from some other movies including Taxi Driver I thought near the end. Kevin wasn't as good as he can be and like all these movies how does a mild mannered insurance salesman turn into a superhero avenger? But that is the genre. I am giving this four stars because it is very good for the genre rather than overall. If you like this kind of movie you will definitely like this.

Worth a watch but a little violent

Very well done action scenes, particularly the last one, although it could have used a few more during the middle. Something I have to mention though, the running time on the site and DVD cover says 110 minutes, which would make it the unrated edition, but I was sent the 100 minute MA15 edition.

You couldn't help but think how could an intelligent man be so dumb, but then again emotion and grief can play some funny games on us.

Interesting plot.

Disney Dad morphs into a street wise vigilante after a street gang kills his son. Pretty unbelievable and lots of splatter. Not a good movie to watch with a hangover. Kevin Bacon great actor but should read script before he accepts the role.

Very good movie!

A good movie of a distraught, grieving but misguided father revenging the death of his son and the terrible consequences that followed. Kevin Bacon is great. Well worth watching.

Love revenge movie!

honestly, if you like cheap violence with minimal plot then this is entertaining but otherwise not the best film i've ever seen.

James Wan is a one trick pony...pointless violence.

I reckon after watching this, Kevin Bacon could fight The Hulk or Iron Man. Kind of Charles Bronson type of movie. Revenge stuff without soul. Anyway pure American C..p Forget about it!

A men's movie I would have thought! Particularly when he has come home from yet another awful day at the office and wants "payment" for his frustrations!

?DEATH SENTENCE? not a bad film. Definitely a revenge flick; Kevin Bacon held up his end of the deal. Only problem is, the typical Hollywood style shootout where the bad guys could hit the broad side of a barn with a cannon. Even with a shotgun at close range these guys need a guide dog to aim for them! Don?t read any farther if you haven?t, but plan on seeing the movie!!! These bad ass gang punk boys couldn?t even do the job properly when shooting execution style at the unarm civilians, hostage style on the floor at point blank range in the living room. And yet they still only managed to kill one out of three. If someone had killed my brother and I was a killing bad ass gangster, I think I would had put one in the head to make sure the job was done right before takeoff! But then we wouldn?t have a story would we! Realism has no place in a Hollywood movie now does it? Or what about the fight scene on the car park roof top, what a joke. If I repeatedly punched someone in the head a stomach and then slammed their head in the car door TWICE, I don?t think they would pose any real threat to me anymore!!! Yet in the movie the bad guys are invincible until it?s their queue to die! Come on guys, if it?s not meant to be make-believe, try and keep it believable. The only thing believable is the justices system; that part they got down perfect. But in saying all that; we all feel like taking justices into our own hands when someone wrongs us and that?s what makes it not a bad plot that we can all identify with, but if you?re after something new and different then move along; revenge films like this have all the same breakdown which I don?t need to break down for you. Still? that?s why we watch them and enjoy them. I?m giving it 3 STARS!

hmmm... Had me on the edge of my seat throughout the entirety. Kevin Bacon does a good job, so does Billy and the father of Billy. Well scripted!

Gratuitous violence. Ridiculous storyline. what a waste of time. I am not and never will be a Kevin Bacon fan...John Goodman was wasted

As far as revenge movies go, this one was better than "The Brave One" so I have to give it 3 stars. Bacon does a good job as usual, but I have got to say, the police department in the movie must be one of the worst in movie history! Can't solve anything!

Good believable story line then became a little over the top ,Ramboish . Enjoyable but not rememberable.

Quite enjoyed this movie, even though this theme has been done to death. Ordinary family guy pushed into extraordinary circumstances due to the inaction of the justice institutions.

Nothing new in the storyline, but really well acted by Kevin Bacon. Well worth watching.

A familiar plot with a man's (Kevin Bacon's) family being killed and his taking vengeance on the killers. Good action movie but plot too unbelievable to completely involve the viewer.

I definitely have to agree with Cheri S. It was horrible, started out great, but then it went from bad to worse.

Well he had a point for sure and who wouldn't contemplate doing the same thing if put in that position, but this film was way over the top. A much better revenge film is The Brave One, with Jodie Foster.

We have all seen this kind of movie brfore, a mans family gets killed so he hunts down and kills the men responsible. But Kevin Bacon makes this movie stand out from the rest.

At times overacted by Kevin Bacon but still a movie to see. Very confronting and shows the lenghts people can go to when consumed by grief. A lesson to be learnt on the way gangs work in the US. Shocking but unfortunately too often these things do and will occur.

Poor Kevin is desperate for roles taking on this one. Familiar old story. Bad guys kill family member, Kevin knocks off bad guys 1 by 1. Boring.

We like Kevin Bacon as an actor, but he seemed out of place in this extreme violence movie. Also plot dragged out.
