John Wyndham's classic 1950's novel gets the modern makeover treatment here, but unfortunately the script, cast and budget aren't up to this formidable challenge. Strictly for science fiction addicts desperate for a fix.
Some remakes are brilliant (Dawn of the Dead, Battlestar Gallactica) but most fall into the category of Why Did They Bother. It has to be said that this remake of Day of the Triffids is one of the most truly appalling remakes of all time. It's up there with Invasion and The Wicker Man for sheer crapness.
There are so many laugh-out-loud moments of badness. Apparently you can survive a jumbo jet crashing into the centre of London by locking yourself in the bathroom with several inflatable life jackets, then walk away unscathed.
You can see the movie's budget vanishing before your eyes. As it progresses the sets and props get cheaper and cheaper, along with the plot and dialogue, which gets crapper and crapper. Even the actors don't want to be there. I half expected them to hold up a hand and say "Can we take a short break - I've got my manager and lawyer on conference call". Truly awful. Zero stars.
Boring British telemovie. Should be advertised as such. I thought it was a cinema release.
Very poor movie. Its a C class tele movie. Dont waist your life watching this one.
