Picking up where NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD left off, and still offering no explanation of why the dead are walking the earth, DAWN plunges headlong into one of the most violent and original horror films ever made. After securing an apartment building overcome with flesh-eating zombies, two Philadelphia area SWAT team members, Peter (Ken Foree) and Roger (Scott Reiniger), flee to a television station, where they escape in the station’s helicopter with Francine (Gaylen Ross) and Stephen (David Emge), two station employees. Seeking refuge from the zombies and the ensuing hysteria, they land on top of a Pittsburgh area shopping mall, despite the fact that the undead seem to be flocking there. What begins as a stop for supplies becomes a longer stay as the four become embroiled in a futile war within the mall to keep their flesh to themselves and remain alive.

Perhaps it is a little bit overrated, but I still like to think of Romero's 1978 zombie film as genre defining and a classic that all horror fans should see. It's not for everyone, but if you like zombie movies then this is the quintessential film of this category.

George A Romero - what a Legend! Even back in the 70's the SFX were outstanding. Watching his earlier movies before viewing his more recent remakes is a must for hard-core Zombie movie fans. And as usual, the bonus extras are just so fascinating.

You've got to love Romero's increasingly inaccurate trilogy with their contemporary commentaries. Where will consumerism end? What's the point of keeping up with the Joneses when there are no Joneses? What will be left for the Zombies if humans perish? Romero like all good story tellers should leave you wondering, if that's too much to bear, don't fret, there's plenty of gore and violence.

This is the classic of Zombie movies, genuinely scary and believable with the way the survivors hold up in a department store and have the instinct to hide out and make some sort of life again after the disaster. Top movie from the master George A Romero. A must see for all horror buffs. Brilliant.

An all-time cult classic by the master himself, george A. Romero. The doco on the DVD is a must-see in itself...

Best fantasy for having a shopping mall all to yourself. Not meant to be scary. Good comedy.

Outdated. Special effects poor in comparison to todays. Remake better. I was laughing through the whole movie because it wasn't scary at all!
