Consists of two parts, the first one is very short (10 minutes or so) takes place in a hotel in Paris and fans of Natalie Portman will not be disappointed. The rest takes place on a train in India, mostly. There is also one extra feature about "making of" the film. Overall style over substance. Yes it is highly colourful (the saris, garlands of flowers, painted train (both inside and outside), etc. But it is aimless and pointless; flat fluff . The characters are boring, self-centred, odd, pathetic, damaged characters; they do not trust each other for very good reason, they are simply not trustworthy, not likeable. Garbage, thin story, uninspiring. The music has a strong presence, perhaps too strong, as somebody commented maybe the loud music is trying to fill out the void in the story and in the characters? Two stars for taste of India (colourful interior designs of the train, saris and garlands of flowers). But better order some informative documentary about India instead of watching the slow and boring long plot of this film....

I was expecting an adventure epic taking us to exotic India, filled with comedy and heart-warming stuff... didn't get any of that. Cinematography was decent. Watch it if you don't have anything else to watch, or watch it with extremely low expectations

Slow moving, oddball movie about the relationships and behaviours within a family. Amusing and poignant at times, it misses the greatness of some of Wes Anderson's other movies like The Royal Tennebaums. Strong performances, but not for action buffs. If you didn't like Life Aquatic much then don't see this one because it's nowhere near as exciting.

Wow, what a disappointment this movie was. I was expecting a funny amusing story about 3 brothers and it was so not funny, just stupid. We endured 38 mins (felt much longer) when the disc stopped playing as it was faulty, we were glad to stop watching it!! Owen Wilson was simply irritating, the other two brothers were insipid.

I really liked the film, but it's probably not for everyone. The Indian scenery and the trains provide an atmosphereric background to the life journey of three damaged brothers who just lost their father. Over time and some struggle they come to trust each other again.

I did not enjoy this while watching, the characters all annoyed me, the plot made me uncomforable - I just wanted to slap someone, BUT (and you knew that was coming) there is a lot more to this story than what you see on the surface. Towards the end there is a wonderful parage of train carraiges and then it clicked with me - these are all the compartments of our lives in the train that runs from birth to death. Watch it and you'll find you never forget this movie.

So, we are all traveling on the same train in the same direction. Only the cabins are different. Great concept. Top movie. Go and buy yourself some Indian takeaway, get that smell of the spices through the lounge room and enjoy a funny movie with some awesome scenery and a number of clever philosophical lessons along the way.

The one and only good thing about this piece of tedium is you get to see Nathalie Portman's killer body in a stunning pose in the short intro film to the main feature. As for the film itself, early on you learn that the mother fled from the three protagonists to a convent in the Himalayas. 10 minutes in the company of these tedious losers had me looking for caves in the Antarctic. Woeful.

You really need to like flashbacks to enjoy this. Listed in the comedy genre, but I didn't get a solitary laugh or moment of mirth. The characters were just too odd-ball to like. You end up feeling like you've been dragged into a journey you'd never have willingly signed up for.

This movie is pastiche of episodes like most American road movies set in Texas or Arizona. The difference is this one is set on a train on a journey across India. The basic idea, however, is the same, you take some dysfunctional people and, by way of a journey for whatever reason, you pit your eccentrics against locals and locations the characters have never encountered before. The locale of this film, rural India was refreshingly different from the usual beautiful but familiar American landscape. Although there are some amusing moments the commedic possibilties of the film are not brought out or exploited enough. There could have been much more comedy interation between the Indian culture and Americans being Americans. When the brothers came under the watchful eye of the train concierge, for example, here were some of the best moments of the film. Again when they took a snake on to the train the commedic possibilities in that situation were not fully realised. And if you are going to have a comedy actor of the stamp of Bill Murray why restrict him to a minor cameo role-- without any comedy aspects to it. All in all the film is worth watching even because the settings are so different to the ordinary Hollywood run. The music which pervades the movie at every turn - again is a feature of the "road movie" and is sometimes obtrusive; much of it was not to my taste. The gratuitious music in these types of films, what is its purpose? Is it to fill up the void of a plot with little real purpose or meaning, to give you something, rather than very little?

I was expecting alot more, given the well done trailer. It was a little surreal and the relationship between the brothers was odd and interesting to watch. It was just that there always seemed to be something not quite right or not quite all there. It fell a little flat basically. A well intentioned film, and it was funny, but I have to admit I was expecting a much better film. Worth a watch, and maybe don't watch it with children around as it is best not to be distracted while you try to immerse yourself in it.

Wes Anderson does it again. One of the best contemporary film makers gives us a heartwarming and genuine experience of these brother's relationship. Set behind a gorgeous backdrop and an amazing use of colors make this film irresistible. Not for everyone, as with any Wes Anderson film.

Visually beautiful but ultimately pointless. This film had so much potential, a great cast of characters and a rich backdrop to the story. However it felt like a collection of eccentric moments rather than a cohesive story. Ultimately I wound up not caring about the characters and what happened to them.

Pastiche: in parts, yes. Irritating - Owen Wilson. Cameo - Bill Murray, good. It's attempting to be something, maybe it was because I watched on a plane, but I was disappointed, but Owen Wilson always puts me off anyway. Could've been so much more. As a send up of America's ignorance of the rest of the world, it was good...though I'm not sure that was the intent!
