Loved this movie, humour, romance, family hickups it has it all. Cast tops. Very enjoyable
While not the best film in the bunch of Steve Carell. It is still an enjoyable movie. More serious then comedic it still has a few smile moments in it.
A feel good film that stays with you, even to the point of wanting more. Carell plays a brilliant part of the family doormat, that is until fate intervenes. Kudos to director Peter Hedges for making a film that contains so many actors, including young children, all doing the best of making the audience believe in a functional and active family. Some pretty cheesy moments but very funny in parts.
Very enjoyable movie, great job by all concerned.
Enjoyable and funny at times. Awkward at times too. Steve Carell always good to watch. Worth having a look.
This was a total laugh out loud movie for me - one of my fave Steve Carell movies!
I found this movie really painful to watch. Steve Carell plays his character so well, you really feel his pain & displacement. It ended "happily", but it was brutal getting there. Some funny moments but I wouldn't call it a comedy.
Emjoyable. Funny. Interesting. But a little depressing in its tone somewhat. There was just something unlikable at the heart of this movie. I really liked it. The story was great and the characters good. But something about it made me itch emotionally.
I really enjoyed this movie
Easy to watch, feel good movie. I enjoyed it!
Possible Steve Carell's best movie. Fantastic, real and funny. I have seen it again
Loved this american movie, thought it was real, fantastic
really enjoyed this movie.
I enjoyed this one, bit slow in parts and the ending bought a tear to the eye.
A widower finds out the woman he fell in love with is his brother's girlfriend. Poor script and direction makes this movie a snoozefest
Great movie. It feels real life. Great acting. Enjoyable family movie.
This movie was so boring and un-funny that I turned it off within 30 minutes.
Overall okay...though some scenarios in this were just a little too ridiculous.
Fun, light hearted, enjoyable.
Funny movie with the right ending ..... had its moments
AWESOME!! watched it twice. great film.
Enjoyable to a point then you realise it is heading in the direction you predicted from the start. Good performances from the daughters.
Good film, thought it would be super funny but wasn't so much but still good film
Stellar cast lifts this above the ordinary, especially SC
Descriptors: White Anglo Saxon Protestant flapdoodle, a Yankee apple pie and ice cream romantic comedy, sentimental and sweet, quirky and quite entertaining. Plot: Steve Carell is uptight Dan Burns, a Mr. Nice Guy newspaper advice columnist and single father who’s struggling to cope since the death of his wife. He meets Marie in a bookshop, later discovering she is dating his brother; relationships are tested in none too serious ways in what becomes an awkward annual family reunion. Verdict: Pleasant and enjoyable if one doesn’t mind the rather weakly drawn character of Dan, the even more so Marie (Juliette Binoche), his love interest, and Dan’s family members. Will tranquility return to Dan’s Life? Will love conquer all? Is this Real?
A very good film that never sinks into sentimentality. Top performance by Steve Carell.
Charming character comedy-drama - funny and sad but not too gooey. Big family movie set in gorgeous location on Rhode Island USA. Steve Carell plays the amiable not-quite-loser well as always. John Mahoney and Dianne Wiest are delightful as Poppy and Nana. Great soundtrack too!
Not what I was expecting to from Steve Carell, after seeing him in "The 40 Year Old Virgin". This is a bittersweet movie, and is humorous at times. It is the story of a single father raising 3 daughters, who is trying to find love again.
Not quite what I was expecting from Steve Carrell after seeing him in 'The 40 Year Old Virgin'. This movie is humorous at times. It is bittersweet and focuses on a single father who is raising three daughters and trying to find love again.
Funny and touching story about the life of a single and recently widowed father attempting to raise his three daughters on his own. A newspaper columnist by day, giving total strangers advice based on their own problems, it seems he finds it more difficult to take his own advice. Unbeknownst to him, he falls in love with his brothers new girlfriend whom everyone loves.
I love Steve Carrell...
Does anyone else think that Binoche in this movie reminds you of Julia Roberts?
Kind of disappointing - Steve Carell is usually a pretty safe bet, but this was just so tedious and boring. Everything moves at such a slow pace and never really seems to get anywhere. The attempts at comedy are contrived and not funny. This movie tries to explore the same themes that Little Miss Sunshine did, but doesn't do it anywhere near as well or as entertainingly.
Special Features include commentary, two featurettes, deleted scenes and outtakes.
I loved this movie- I related to it as a parent and as a human being. I thought his loyalty to his family was wonderful but also am glad for the happy ending. The whole imperfection in his family is what we can all relate to in a way I'm guessing as well- I know I sure did.
I saw one reviewer compare this to "The Family Stone". Not for me. Where "The Family Stone" was boring and lifeless, this flick was warm, involving and funny. Genuine chemistry between the leads and a very real and engaging performance from Steve Carrell.
we found it a lovely family movie, showing the dedication to his brother after finding he was in love with his brothers girlfriend, he was willing to forgo her effection for the happiness of his brother and family, it was only the girlfriend that could make the decision to show she really loved him,to eliveate the comfusion
What a quirky, funny film. Thouroughly enjoyed and a film I would either watch again or even like to own.
Excellent movie with well integrated plot.
enjoyed this film. well cast and wanted to see more. story was credible.
Funny as!! loved it! Was a hoot!
A touching story, with some good humour. Steve Carell is very good in it. As always with American films trying to be serious and humourous at the same time, it is a little predictable. However still a good watch.
Why I do I bother with these kinds of movies. They are just not for me. Cardboard acting and scripts that arent new just slightly tweaked from movie to movie. Easy cash!
Very funny and at times touching. It is great for all ages with no real lewdness or profanity. We were actually surprised by how much we enjoyed it. We would definitely recommend this to anyone.
enjoyed this movie, better than I thought it would be.
it was okay - pretty predictable and I didn't find it funny at all.. but good if your in the mood for it
A real gem. Steve Carell is great in the underdog roles. The family were perfectly cast and when they are all on-screen at the one time it's a joy to watch them interact. Juliette Binoche was a refreshing change from the usual leading ladies in this type of movie.
If you can look past the formulaic plot you will enjoy this movie.
Excellent, low key, comedy-drama. This is not your usual in-your-face humour, more subtle and at times, cringe-worthy. Great ensemble cast and good soundtrack. Well worth a watch.
A very good Sunday night movie; a nice finish to your weekend; a good storyline with a happy ending.
This was a great movie - much better than I had expected it to be. Very funny and also bittersweet, with a great performance by Steve Carrell.
very enjoyable! This shows just how versatile Steve Carell is.
A nice enjoyable movie but maybe not for everyone i personally did not think this was one of Steve Carells best movie but still a good watch
Another brilliant movie and I enjoyed it immensley
With effectively the same material Steve Carell made his character in the USA version of the office his own. In saying this we already know he is a great actor so there's no surprises here. Typical romantic comedy midday movie stuff.
I loved this movie and prefer Steve Carell in a "serious" role rather than in a comedic one.
Absolutely terrificly made. A little bit of humour but for the most part sensitive movie about a single father and his struggles with bringing up his daughters. Highly recommended.
Carrell plays a different role in this one but does a great job with a decent supporting cast. Unfortunately the story line becomes a little cliched with the typical Hollywood ending
An enjoyable movie that touches on the themes of love and loss.
Enjoyable film, although I would classify it as neither a comedy nor a drama. The fun is watching the relationships between the family characters, especially John Mahoney, Dianne Wiest, and Steve Carrell. A downside was watching Steve Carroll be awkward and ebarrassed for the middle of the film and be a jerk for other parts. That was a bit overplayed. But the rest was good.
I expected a little more of crazy Steve as this was a tad mellow for him. However it does show the serious side of a very comedic actor.
Excellent - Similar plot as Family Stone.
A very funny movie....well worth watching...you need to fully concentrate as you can miss out important bits which we realised when we watched it again....
