Actors: Gerard Depardieu, Anne Brochet

France's favourite literary character, the long-nosed romantic poet and dauntless officer, is brought to life through the award winning performance of Gerard Depardieu.
Cyrano de Bergerac knows no fear. He is a Gascon army officer and a swordsman whose skills with the blade are unrivalled. But, behind the majestic bravado lies a tortured soul, for Cyrano is a romantic poet who longs for a love that always seems to elude him. The object of his passion comes in the shape of his cousin, the beautiful Roxanne, and the object of his torment comes in the shape of his very long nose...
Magnificent sets and costumes, a wonderful score and a cast of thousands ensure Cyrano de Bergerac is a cinematic masterpiece.

What the blurb forgot to say was that this is in French with English subtitles!! Slow going, didn't bother watching much of it at all.

poignant, strongly charismatic Gerald Depardieu (Cyrano) enforces viewers to just keep their eyes on him at all times.........he is the most compelling French actor of his time, and beautifully typifies the French poet he is aspiring to bring to life on the screen. If you love ....life/love/danger/costumes/tradedgy and all with a French accent...this ones for you!!

A good film and story to see as long as you don't mind reading subtitles or you speak fluent French. If I'd known this prior to getting this film I would have given it a miss as when I want entertinment I don't want to have to concentrate on reading in order to follow a story.

Great story. Great Directing. Great acting. Had us totally involved the whole way through even though it was subtitled. Transported us back to a time when honour was more important than personal gain.

The problem I found with this movie is that Cyrano is a loud-mouth. His role is way overdone as far as talking goes. If it wasn't for his mouth I would have enjoyed the movie.
