As time goes by the village becomes consumed by cries of witchcraft. One by one, the blameless victims of this mass hysteria are torn from their homes and families.

We watched this with the Year 11 student of the house who is reading the book/play on which the movie is based. But I also read this book in year 11 some 20 years ago... Not much changes in the curriculum... Worth watching for Daniel Day Lewis' performance alone, and it reminds me how much I miss Winona Ryder on the big screen. Although I had to laugh at Commandant Lesard from Police Academy as one of the judges. I was waiting for a scene at a podium...

The Crucible: Breathtaking - everything was stunning - the acting, the sets, and Miller's adaptation of his play. Wow!

Disturbing and loosely true story of ignorant hysteria, jealousy and manipulative young women in 17th century Salem, Massachusettes. Well worth a look with Daniel Day-Lewis binding the whole thing together superbly.

Frightening story when you really think that it happened. Times haven't really changed that much. People are still pretty stupid and sheeplike and religion still controls the flock.

Loosely based on the events at Salem, but having said that, still not bad. Good acting, engaging. Well worth a look.

Excellent historical drama, depicting the puritans of Massachusettes relish for the externalising of evil. Daniel Day-Lewis up to his best.

Great story of mass hysteria, jealousy and manipulative young women. I wasn't around for the mccarthy era (which the play was supposed to parallel), but the story is equally applicable to the current terrorism hysteria.
