Strong themes, strong coarse language

Director: Paul Haggis
Actors: Karina Arroyave, Sandra Bullock, Dato Bakhtadze, Brendan Fraser, Don Cheadle, Tony Danza, Keith David, Loretta Devine, Matt Dillon, Jennifer Esposito, William Fichtner, Terrence Howard

A Brentwood housewife and her DA husband. A persian store owner. Two police detectives who are also lovers. An African-American television director and his wife. A Mexican locksmith. Two car-jackers. A rookie cop. A middle-aged Korean couple... They all live in Los Angeles. And during the next 36 hours, they will all collide...

Challenging and thought provoking, CRASH takes a provocatve, unflinching look at the complexities of racial tolerance in contemporary America. This compelling urban drama tracks the volatile intersections of a multi-ethnic cast of characters struggles to overcome their fears as they careen in and out of one another's lives. CRASH boldly reminds us of the importance of tolerance as it ventures beyond colour lines and uncovers the truth of our shared humanity.

A number of interwoven stories about conflict and difference. The characters are flung together by circumstance and they react as best they can. However, this often involves racism and violence, which unfortunately is common in human beings. This is an engaging and gripping movie that will have you on edge the whole time. There is never a dull moment, and when the little girl runs toward the gunman your heart stops beating! The only downside is that the viewer tends to be emotionally remote because there are no central characters for the them to identify with. However, well worth watching.

I turned this off after about 30 minutes. All the women/wives are bitches and antagonise their partners. Everyone is overtly racist and unlikeable. I know that's meant to be the point of the film but I couldn't like/relate to any of these people so I couldn't get into the story. Sure the world is a depressing place sometimes and people can be rude and racist and mean but do we really need movies to rub our faces in it?

This is unexpectedly good. The cast are all excellent. A much better movie than Babel (similar genre). If you watch this and aren't moved by the scene with the father and young child (as depicted on the poster/photo left) you have a heart of stone. I am surprised by the venom of some of the bad reviews.... I really liked this movie.

powerful message in this story, how so many lives are intervene/crash in a small community. The good people turned bad, and the bad people turned good. The message is, everyone are given a second chance to be a better person. And guns should not be easily acquired on the strees of anywhere in the world. Accidents might just happened.

From the first frame to the last this is a masterpiece of American fim-making. We all know the problems with our democratic, multi-cultural societies, but this film delves deeper than our day-to-day experience to show us that each one of us has a story and a heart. It does this using every technique available to a truly great assembly of artists. Don't miss this movie.

Oh...My...God... This is an awesome movie. I cannot recall any other US movie that conveys a mood and a message this graciously. If only we'd see more movies of this pedigree from Hollywood. Even Kieslowski or Hallström will loose sleep over how Crash's underplayed storytelling is giving them healthy competition in quality moviemaking. Acting, super. Music score, sublime. Ability to make you forget you're watching a movie, awesome. Relevance for us humans, spot on.

This terrific drama is not for the faint-hearted. Challenging, but rewarding, it's not really "about" anything more than the complexity of life in the modern era, and the prejudices we all have but would rather not acknowledge... "I'm not racist, but..." In terms of plot? This one's more about character - to plot the journeys of the many characters (with their just as numerous strengths and foibles) would render the "point" of this film quite pointless... Each of the characters stand out; from Bullock as the well-heeled victim of her circumstance who's only true "friend" is her loyal Hispanic maid, to the "black guy" who rambles on ad infinitum about systemic racism - forgetting that he's just as racist... and by his behaviours let alone attitudes, feeds the racims he rails against... The direction of this film is flawless; we learn to appreciate each of the things the characters feels, despite perhaps not liking them. The human condition is what it is, and only with care and compassion can we not live by the law of the jungle... This film stays with you for days, and makes you thankful for - amongst other things - that gun law in Australia is pretty tight... and makes you look around at your (hopefully) multcultural friends with renewed hope that the things they taught you about the goodness of the human spirit will triumph. Such should never need to be explained. Highly recommended.

Don't be taken in by the accolades heaped on this movie. Its a shocker. The comic bits are not funny and the sad bits not worth a tear. The story-line meanders about all over the place being mainly concerned in fulfilling its politically-correct purpose, and is so contrived it goes beyond credibility. Even Miss Congeniality fails to raise the bar. So, caveat emptor!

A must-see. I very, very rarely say that about a movie, but this one is written beautifully, acted superbly, and - even though the director is a scientologist - it is directed brilliantly. Stories begin separately and are woven together as the movie progresses. Even if this device normally gives you the proverbials, Crash does it well - nothing jars or irritates. Go with it and enjoy a superb film.

Short version: If you liked Babel, you will LOVE Crash. - It does what Babel didn't, it told a fast, suspenseful, compelling story of how the lives of exceptionally different people could 'crash' into one another and even mirror each others hopes and fears. Those fears push reasonable people to do things they normally wouldn't, but not always in the negative directions you might think. Telling a story like that with decent pace? THAT speaks of a real effort on behalf of the writer, cast and crew!

The movie's theme - racism - is not subtly presented to the audience, but then again subtley is no strong point of American popular culture. How they managed to get such a terrific cast line up amazes, and the pace of the story never weakens. So refreshing to see a quality American product with a solid political and social message.

Nice to look at but I think it's too heavy handed in it's message (being a script problem). That took away from it's realism. In the end worth seeing for some performances but universaly overrated in my opinion.

excellent movie about racial predjudices. set in USA but applies to all races. it highlights how each race of people is racist in some way and the detriment we face as a society because of it. a must see film.

Over rated crap .... do yourself a favour .. go to church if you want to be preached to. Predictable and contrived, and to think this won the best picture Oscar. Only in Amerika.

This movie was excellent even though it is depressing. Unfortunately this shows what real life is like for a lot of people, just because of the colour of their skin. Even though it was sad, there were some enlightening moments when people discovered they are treated as humans despite the colour of their skin.

Not a classic, but none the less an outstanding movie with a brilliant thought provoking story line. One of the most enjoyable I have seen for some time. It is the sort of movie that keeps you thinking about it long after you have finished watching it. Hopefully we can all learn something about tolerance and shared humanity. A fantastic cast who portray their roles with true professionalism, except for Tony Danza who is only in it for two minutes - probably just as well !

Great movie!!! Another one of those 6 degrees of seperation type movies, shows how total strangers are involved with each other and don't even know it. Great movie and has a twist or two.
