Since a road accident left him with serious facial and bodily scarring, a former 'TV scientist' has become obsessed by the marriage of motor car technology with what he sees as the `raw sexuality' of car-crash victims. The scientist, along with a crash victim he has recently befriended, sets about performing a series of sexual acts in a variety of motor vehicles, either with other crash victims or with prostitutes who they contort into the shape of trapped-corpses. Ultimately, the scientist craves a suicidal union of blood, semen and engine coolant, a union with which he becomes dangerously obsessed.

Very curious to read other people's opinions of this movie. I sat through it and then thought, 'What's the point?' Love James Spader (he loves taking on sexual explicit roles), but after sitting through it, still have no idea of what it was about. Would only recommend to quirky movie-watchers

Do you find it sexually exciting viewing car crashes and injured bodies with deep scars, etc. If yes then perhaps this film is for you. I am with Gerd on this one: I too find it unappealing and ridiculous. I would rather believe in sex with industrial chimneys or Eiffel Tower. I feel so perfectly normal after viewing this bizarre film. Not worth your time, in my opinion.

Very strange film but good realization of JG Ballard's novel.

A very weird movie populated by very weird characters, all with a weird fascination for car crashes along with strange sex. Entirely unappealing and quite ridiculous.

A nice visualisation of J.G Ballard's brilliant book 'Crash' written in 1973. The car as a sexual image merges bodies and metal in intimate ways; just see Roseanna Arquette's legs... wow! It's all so Cronenberg - a lot of his films deal with this theme; the twin gyneacologists in 'Dead Ringer' with their creepy medical instruments and 'Existenz' where virtual reality games connect to the players through a gamer umbilical cord, come to mind. My only quibble with this film is that there is no mention of Vaughn's obsession with Elizabeth Taylor (Elias Kateas, who plays the character Vaughn looks a lot like Eliot from Law

Look I may be being harsh considering all I expected, but the pacing seems to be off, and I fear the ugly hand of a censor has touched this. Whoever these family first people are I wish they would stop speaking on behalf of my family. Still manages to be good even if it has been sanitized to protect Australian families.

Very bizarre, somewhat disturbing movie - definitely not for everyone. An interesting premise, but the minimalist script doesn't allow for much character development, and the tedious pacing makes it seem like not much is happening - the film could have easily been 20 minutes shorter. Overall, you're left feeling not very satisfied with it. Elias Koteas is his usual brilliant self though. No Special Features included.

Well, David Croenenberg, I finally caught up with this twisted mess that you made a few years ago. I have loved some of your movies but this, in my opinion, is crap. Another reviewer asked "What's the point?" I don't believe there is (was) one. Holly Hunter and James Spader must have needed the money. No wonder we've never seen (the very sexy) Deborah Kara Unger since. She's probably in hiding!!!!

A strange story line about people who seem to be sexually aroused by car crashes. MMM interesting. James Spader in probably his most daring role is brilliant (as usual) he was never one to pass up a role which dealt with sexual exploits and he pulls this one off well. I remember seeing this flick when it first came out and just had to see it again. Probably best seen more than once just to make sure you get it. Not for the faint of heart.

A Cronenberg film never really holds back and this is no exception. An interesting if strange experience, this is not for everyone, but certainly worth a visit if you like a darker look at sexual relationships, as the script is impressive enough.

I know there was alot of good raves about this movie, but I just couldn't get into it, too many jumping from one to the other for me to get really interested. Didn't finished watching it.

A very unique film, if you like Boxing Helena then this one is for you. I think its more of an Art house film, not a horror or thriller. Has some very strange ideas which are always good in a film. A good movie is one you can discuss and learn from.
