Enjoyed this movie, great actors and a different slant on the aliens theme.Don't expect a classic and you won't be disappointed
i agree with Hayesy (below), something missing. the aliens really should have won. but conviently they get help from......(no spoiler). daniel craig..... he's bloody good at this stuff.
I really did not think i would enjoy this but while totally out of left field i did enjoy it.
Great new theme to a movie that I hadn't seen before. Still something missing.
Pretty good, a good twist on a theme.
A surprisingly enjoyable couple of hours.
Enjoyed. Give me Daniel and/or Harrison any day. Weird story line but sat through it to see what happened. Must be tough in Hollywood to come up with original story line these days.
quite a bit of boys own entertainment - the actors played it straight - but a bit of humour would have made it better. Enjoyable nonsense, really
Think this is one for the 'boys' my Husband enjoyed it much more than I did? ? ?
Nice way to spend Friday night, enjoyable
this movie is cool different and i couldnt stop watching it
Not as bad as I was expecting after I read some of the reviews posted here. In fact I found it to be quite a good mixture of Western and Sci Fi, just don't expect too much and you shouldn't be too disappointed.
Have wanted to watch this movie for a while, but was disappointed with it. It could have been a really good movie if it was supposed to be so serious, a little humour in this movie would have gone a long way.
stupid and boring!!!!! do not even think about it
This trite is possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. I actually don't have the words to describe how bad it is. The initial story concept has some merit, but when the rubber hits the road the execution and end product leaves you begging that you can have the last hour or so of your life back, just so you can do something more worthwhile. Don't waste you time or money with this. Rent 'Aliens' and 'The Good, bad and the Ugly' and watch them back to back instead...your inner child will be more thankful.
This is the biggest steaming pile of doggy do I have ever watched.
We enjoyed this movie as we thought why do aliens always have to be in the future. There are drawings of them almost back to biblical times. It was a good sci-fi except for Harrison Ford's woeful acting.
A bit of fun . Cowboys with a difference. Good actors probably saved it.
A bit corny but compulsive viewing just the same.
A really strange story, and was certainly different to the usual' horse opera' the actors played it straight faced, which must have been hard to do, as there was plenty of action, the silly story line, was ignored,
We really enjoyed this movie. Full of action & fun.
Interstellar petty crim aliens in gucci fighter planes with laser lassoos invade gold rush town. Outlaws, townsfolk, injuns, sheriff, hot alien chick, superstud D. Craig and sundry others unite to save world. Classic quote from possie member: "Got a kid and a dog, why not a woman?" H. Ford unconvincing as nasty cattle baron. Faithless dog switches master at every scene, but redeems self in showdown with alien. Final outcome? Brute alien power succumbs to unanticipated human courage and cunning. Abductees rescued. Mothership destroyed. Aliens and outlaws splatterfested; injuns and townsfolk survive. Ah, the good old days of the wild wild west!
Good fun. Definitely handling of genre hybrid with Harrison Ford's grumpy old cowboy carrying a lot of the production and, Paul Dano as his weasely son Percy Dolarhide giving viewers someone to despise. Steampunk rocketry and frog-hopping green aliens with extendable arms were ridiculous and cool at the same time. The whole thing was no doubt elaborated from an old Amazing Stories magazine cover but there was just enough tongue in cheek to make the project work
Weird, disjointed and no real start or end, not worth the time, which is weird, considering the cast.
I'd recommend this for a light night of escapist diversion. One to just let roll easily over you.
Does strikes me that a few key elements are straight out of Joss Whedon's Firefly/Serenity. Not badly done though. And Harrison Ford offers a nice workman-like job. I'm sure for some, just seeing Daniel Craig in a pair of leather chaps will justify the experience entirely....
Why is it though, that aliens always have a set of slimy opening flaps somewhere, that something protrudes from? Some very Freudian projections going on in this particular 20th/21st century popular motif.
Wow, what a movie BIG cast I never thought I'd see Daniel Craig or Harrison Ford as cowboy's but what a ride, just enjoy it for it it is a bit of fun. Highly recommended.
A good film with a very strange mash up of, well, cowboys and aliens. Handsome cast. Great effects.
Really enjoyed this. Was reminded of the made for TV movie Alien Western but this was much better.
Great to see a couple of top flight actors in a fun movie
This was a real twist on the usual alien invasion movie. It was fast paced and gripping and I really enjoyed it. Good actors and a decent storyline.
I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed this movie as it seemed really corny and laughable from the trailer. The concept of mixing western with sci-fi and action elements works really well. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford make a really awesome cowboy team and I liked both performances. The aliens looked pretty kool as well. Worth watching :)
it was good kept freezing
A cross between BladeRunner, raiders of the Lost arc, Alien, and a Classic Western A lot of Fun
I like Harrison Ford so I tried to have an open mind with this but as usual all of the good parts were what was shown in the trailer...would not recommend this movie at all unless you want something that will put you to sleep.
Fab movie...Love the story line...would definitely watch again!!
good movie - would watch it again
Better than I expected...worth watching
A bit of a different idea, but I enjoyed this movie. Good entertainment.
A different approach to sci fi. Watch it if you like action films as there is plenty of it in this.
Daniel Craig... I don't get it. Why is he a sex symbol? He goes through this movie looking like a grumpy garden gnome (that hat is atrocious!). And poor Harrison Ford... he's so doddery now that it feels like sympathy casting. But the effects are good, if a little silly (a horse can keep up with a spaceship??) -- worth a watch, if you can suspend a LOT of disbelief...
Want a tacky movie? Here is one: Cowboys, bandits, indians and Aliens! I don't understand why Daniel Craig is playing in such a dumb movie. It is so bad that I was bored from the first minutes. The action and characters are so previsible. The scenes have been seen in tons of other movies that frankly you figure out the whole movie before it ends. All the elements of a Hollywood movie are there good versus bad. Love story, happy end.... 2011 was the year of a lot of bad movies and Cowboys and Aliens is definitely in the list between Thor, Rise of the planet of the apes and Battle of LA. Well iif you love no brainer movies like Independence Day or Transformers then you might like this.
OK thank goodness Olivia was in the movie.
Really enjoyed this movie and found Daniel Craig's performance as Lonergan really compelling. So, this movie was of the comic book genre, actually adapted from an actual comic book of the same title. And the genre's of sci fi meets western, but I thought it worked and the filmmakers did a good job of it.
There was lots going on all the time and I wasn't bored for a moment. The only thing I found that was overdone was the exaggerated emotional connections between the characters. I think that the emotions were overemphased on the sickening side, considering that these people of the old wild west were real toughies and so the film would have been better with that still present, but toned right down.
One thing on a philosophical note. There were several factions, warring ones, in the plot: the townspeople, the bank robbers, the native Americans and then there was Jake and they were all at each other -like murderous. But when a common enemy comes along, namely the aliens, they all pull together and discover that they love humanity after all. Ha.
Really liked the performance of Noah Ringer (Emmett in the movie). He's the young chap that played the lead in "The Last Airbender". This young man's got a future in film. And I really liked the character that Clancy Brown played too (the preacher guy). Hollywood always needs a liberal quotient of wisdom!
Hollywood.....OHHHH HOLLYWOOD! Whe will you clowns learn that you can't blend genres and hope for the best!
Sorry, this was total, utter GARBAGE!
I dont like cowboys and indians but this film was different I enjoyed it.
A really good light entertainment. As another reviewer said, "Don't over analyse it". Just enjoy it for what it is.
Didnt watch this movie for a long time in fear of how stupid it sounded , but you know what I enjoyed it !
I really wanted to like this movie. It had so much going for it. But about half way through the novelty wore off and I stopped caring what happened. Not really sure why but maybe it was too predictable for my liking and I didn't really like many of the characters and those that I did died anyway.
Definately for the KIDS !! Not for me or maybe YOU !!
I watched this with my husband who said "it's as weird as hell". Jump on...enjoy it. It's about Aliens and Cowboys...don't over analyse it. Personally I loved it!
Not a thinking man's film, but thoroughly entertaining. Loved it!
This movie was far better than I expected. Entertaining from start to finish. Check your brain at the door and just enjoy a fun flick.
The Aliens had no chance from the beginnig with a grumpy old Han Solo on a horse and an amnesic 007 agent with a laser thingy as his Rolex.
Great premise for a story but you need to have a very short memory to enjoy this flick.
Forgiven but not forgotten!
Brilliant movie. Well done. Daniel acted well
A spaceship arrives in Arizona, 1873, to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. A posse of cowboys and natives are all that stand in their way. Not even the great cast could save this boring claptrap.
I felt this movie was far too celebrated for what it delivered, i expected an entertaining action sc-fi movie, but it seemed to instead turn into a sort of love story with a bit of drama.
Some interesting sci-fi special effects. However, a weak story line and disappointing performances by well known actors makes this a forgettable movie.
Good for a non thinking type of movie. Better then what I was expecting.
Really weak plot, disappointing.
A bit slow, and lacks a bit of common sense. Missing some of the actions it could have had and has instead too much special FX to take away the rather poor story line.
Disappointing. Good effects - two stars for effort but a bit of a fizzler. No great moment, twist or anything non-predicatble.
Interesting concept on the alien genre. Strange watching Harrison Ford as a cowboy. Enjoyable, none the less.
Okay, probably wouldn't run out to see it though
This movie has good cinematography and special effects. Great suspense but limited character development. Good action flick with a well rounded cast.
different, interesting... and certainly watched from start to finish, entertaining moments... enjoyed!
A bit confusing at the beginning but not a bad movie
I don't know why reviewers have bagged this so much. OK it's a little po faced and it could do with a few light touches and wry grins. It seems to take itself SO seriously but the movie overall is a lot of fun. Jon Favreau has made a straight down the line cowboy film....and thrown in aliens. Daniel Craig does a great American accent and is quite brilliant throughout, although I think I liked his trousers and chaps a bit too much....but going on. Harrison Ford is great as the grumpy old man, a role that he really doesn't have to act. I have to admit to slight boredom halfway through and I thought the aliens were daft but the movie was fun. Really!
Brilliant, clever concept and great special affects. An enjoyable movie.
Was really confused by this. It wasn't ironic, it wasn't a parody, but it wasn't serious and it wasn't interesting. It was really rather slow, uneventful, and insignificant.
This movie was ok, not one of Daniel Craig best
Western sci-fi = great action. Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig are a great combination and will not disappoint fans.
This film through me at first, then the tripping through his memories of what was happening and how he come about the wrist band was excellent, the ability to put aliens against the backdrop of the Wild West was an exciting plot. I expected to see harrison as the alien, but to mysurprise he was one of the Landowners and a pissed landowner when his cattle keep turn up dead, Daniel Craig was excellent as the confused cowboy-outlaw and his face never gave away the plot.
I suppose I would've loved this sort of thing when I was 12. At least it had decent characters and I thought Harrison Ford was actually pretty good - he should do more roles like this, or perhaps even more westerns.
Oh hum, boring! What are these A list starts thinking when they take on something as bad as this? They must be desperate for the dollar!
I was dissappointed. I cant remember the last time (if ever) that I watched a Harrison For movie that I didn't love. On the upside as expected acting was great by all..... story was what let this movie down for me! and those aliens...WHAT THE???
It's missing something but I can't put my finger on it. Olivia's belly button ?
The title had me thinking this would be a bit of a stretch but I enjoyed it so much I didn't think too hard about it. The characters were all pretty well drawn, even Harrison Ford grew on me as the grumpy hard nosed colonel. It was a very pleasant surprise.
While it had the potential to be a shocker, it was very well done. I give it an extra star for successfully combining scifi with the wild west. Well worth a watch.
What a great movie! loved it, from beginning to end, always liked Harrison Ford.
Better than I expected - about slightly above average. Some horror scenes and suspense.
I love science fiction, and I enjoy a good western. I can suspend my disbelief for a decent comic book movie. I really enjoyed the trailer for this. I should have left it at that. I wanted to like it, but the movie would not let me, it was just too dumb. Enjoy the trailer, give the film a miss.
PLENTY OF ACTION AND A STAR CAST WELL WORTH WATCHING
I put this on the list because of the great cast et al, but didn't know what to expect. I'm not a sci fi fan but husband is. It was just so much better than I expected - I can say I really enjoyed it. Beautifully filmed, good script and story line, just withing the boundaries of acceptable violence, suitable for teens of 15 who understand sci fi, both Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig - wow! As a western it works well, love the scenery and characters. The underlying theme of foes joining forces to fight a common enemy is a good one. I love the preacher's quote - "I've seen good men do bad things and I've seen bad men do good things" - a second chance for those who wish to change. Such a good movie. Dont watch casually, be prepared to sit down and pay attention.
Although typically a blokes film I thoroughly enjoyed it myself. Is it a comfy, no. But it did have moments to make you chuckle. I was far better than I thought it woul bei indeed.
I saw this at the movies - amazing cinematography; action packed! One of the best sci-fi movies that I have seen -up there with Aliens. Rough and ready cowboys (from the 1800's) -v- horribly frightening, demonic aliens - and what an imaginative storyline! It delves into the abductee scenario and subtly relates to current theory/trends from conspiracy sites. It certainly doesn't insult the intelligence -two genres for the price of one!
Fell asleep watching this and that was at the movies!! On the big screen. Silly stuff not even fantasy.
I don't think this movie is silly at all as per other reviews. You know you are about to watch a movie with aliens and cowboys and has the suspension of disbelief. Why shouldn't they come to earth in whatever period of time and where they like. There were a couple of questions left unanswered but overall it was entertaining and I liked the way all the characters came together.
I enjoyed it because it was very silly!
Unfortunately, like almost everything nowadays, it was shot in the dark ... works well at the movies but doens't translate too well in the living room
what a complete waste of tallent Craig and Ford should have run far away after reading the script.A complete waste of my time to watch and still didnt explain some things, like why the aliens wanted gold.Dont bother watching.
Disappointed. seems a bit like sucked out of the thumb. maybe because they used 6 different screenwriters? It has everything: actors, action, aliens, indians added also for good measure, but somehow it failed to hit the spot. Can't say we feel like watching it again anytime soon.
Great action and a good cast. Entertaining, despite the weird storyline.
This was a surprisingly good movie despite the somewhat suspitious story line.
OK what's not to love.... High Noon meets Aliens. This movie may have meshed movie cliche as much as convention but it totally pulled it off. Really enjoyed it. Good performances, enough twists to keep it interesting, terrifying body count and great cinematography. Highly recommend (but not for little kids bc the Aliens are truly demonic.) Loved the behind the scenes doco in the extras showing the actors playing the alients, they looked like linebackers with pingpong balls on their heads, about as ridiculous as the CGI ones are scary.
Comic Book stuff. Over indulgent and very stupid. Can't belive Daniel Craig got involved in something so idiotic.
another one of those rare movies that actually lives up to anticipated expectations. Very entertaining, recomended viewing if you like this genre
