Coach Carter is based on true events and while it contains the familiar theme of an underdog team’s soaring to excellence it is also about a man who tries to push that team to far greater things. As is mentioned during the movie, Carter wants to put the word, “student” back into the term, “student athlete”. To this end, on his first day with the team, he makes it clear who’s in charge by laying down some ground rules; he insists that all of the members sign a contract in which they must agree to maintain a 2.3 grade average, attend all their classes, sit in the front row and wear a tie on game days. Carter wants his athletes’ lives not to be ruled by the game alone in the hope that they can escape the unpromising future that inevitably awaits most of them.

Great movie that is both inspirational and insightful, and just an all-round enjoyable movie. It is in a similar vein to other inspirational movies such as Lean On Me, To Sir With Love, and Remember The Titans, where there are issues of class, gender, race, social status and identity. Although it is set in a school / sports context, the deeper themes can be related to by everyone in some way. It really is a movie that transcends.

This was a fabulous feel good movie, just what I love. A man devotes his time to coaches a high school basket ball team consisting of boys who lack discipline, application, self esteem in every aspect of their lives and destined to a life in and out of prison. Morgan Freeman fabulous performance.

The themes are familiar. Inspirational coach comes in and turns around a losing team and teaches valuable life lessons along the way. The film - cliched.. yes. But it works! Samuel L Jackson is brilliant. You won't be able to help but be inspired.

Great movie, good acting, not overdone.Jackson was his usual best and the young basketball team members were realistic. The chatroom extra with the real players was an added bonus.

Tells a story about how to educate kids so that they achieve something in life instead of falling through the net. And, of course, there is great basketball!

Similar to other movies, but still good story line to inspire down and out students and people in general. Was impressed with lack of swearing. I did expect it to contain lots of graphic language, but the story was still brought through without this.
