This DVD is better suited to radio than film. Montague Rhodes James, scholar, was the Proctor of Kings College, Cambridge, and a writer of ghost stories.about 100 years ago, and the start of each film creates that time and place nicely. The stories are told by candle-light in the Proctor's sitting room, at nearly midnight on Christmas Eve, and the rich voice of Christopher Lee soon has you shifting about uncomfortably.. They are set in 19th century Denmark, Germany or England; what better places for ghost stories? The films consist merely of. Lee, as M R James, narrating to a select few invited students. There is the occasional blurry film scene, bit as films they fail. However, as stories to listen to in the dark, they succeed wonderfully. Sit back turn off the lights, close you eyes and listen.! You won't be disappointed.
