Launched into the thriving gay subculture, Christopher embarks on a seminal journey of self-discovery. For the first 20 minutes all I could see was Smith as Dr Who. Once I got use to his accent I did enjoy the film. There are some full on scenes and it does provide an interesting insight into this era. If you have time it is worth watching it ... even just for the eye candy

Christopher and His Kind explore the bohemian society of Berlin in the 1930’s with an emphasis on individual sexual freedom. Juxtaposed to this [liberation] is a looming clampdown on targeted individuals, Jewish and gay people and anyone who does not fit with NAZI philosophy. The film is based on books by Christopher Isherwood and they follow his exploits as he indulges himself in the freedom that Berlin offers but not without consequences. The film is very good but it attempts to tell too long a story. It is only 90mins and I felt it could have been longer and cover the points more fully.
