Victor Mancini (Sam Rockwell), a sex-addicted med-school drop-out, who keeps his increasingly deranged mother, Ida (Huston), in an expensive private hospital by working days as a historical re-enactor at a Colonial Williamsburg theme park. At night Victor runs a scam by deliberately choking in upscale restaurants to form parasitic relationships with the wealthy patrons who “save” him. When, in a rare lucid movement, Ida reveals that she has withheld the shocking truth of his father's identity, Victor enlists the aid of his best friend, Denny (Brad William Henke) and his mother's beautiful attending physician, Dr Paige Marshall (Kelly Macdonald), to solve the mystery before the truth of his possibly divine parentage is lost forever.

This movie is a quirky romp with some originality in the plot. It never rises to great heights, but if you want an irreverent laugh then choose this one.

It is quite mild for its R-rating.

Despite two solid lead actors (Rockwell, Huston) and an initially interesting collection of ideas, this film falls flat. Most of the plot threads don't really go anywhere and despite all the sex, Choke leaves the viewer decidedly unsatisfied. Don't be fooled - it's nothing like the inspired book-to-film translation that was afforded Chuck Palahniuk earlier novel 'Fight Club'.

I loved the book, and as in fight club, I got the feeling of unreality and something lurking beneath the surface that hung around the edges waiting to be discovered. This didn't quite come accross in the movie, but it did have a fight club feel to it (if you know what I mean). Angelica Houston was brilliant as the mother, deranged, beautiful and narcissistic. The ending was a bit schmaltzy, but at least the crazy girl gets the guy for a change!! Very black humour, avoid if easily offended, but I found it very funny.,

Sometimes you get the idea a movie is being quirky just for the hell of it, and other times there seems to be a definite point. Fight Club comes to mind for the later, and while this seems to struggle for relevance it amazingly fails to annoy.

dodgy, cover layout makes out its a gritty urban drama along the lines of fight club, ended up being a c grade american comedy piece of garbage, dont watch it.

Has got nothing on Flight Club - book written by same author. Don't waste your time.

A bit of strange movie where the character is obsessed with sex. A bit confusing at times. Not something i'd watch again.

People bag this movie and say it was a flop. What do you expect? It's full of weird sex, half of which takes place in a nursing home and the main character spends a lot of the movie dealing with a major bowel obstruction. Not everyone's cup of tea, sure. Doesn't mean it's not good.

This is a dud - the trailer is very misleading and it never gets beyond jejune one-liners, tho in fairness my partner would've given it 2 stars

I loved this. I agree it lacked the punch of the novel or the adaptation of fight club, but rockwell is brilliant, and as far as black humour goes, this is one of the good ones. The jokes are all deadpan, but I still got some good belly laughs out of it. In a word - entertaining.

This was an enjoyable if not brilliant movie. Like many such adaptations it did not meet my expectations after having read the book. The movie, while reasonably well-paced, lacked the punch and irony of Chuck Palahniuk's brillant novel.
