OCCASIONAL COARSE LANGUAGE, NUDITY

Director: Lasse Hallstrom
Actors: Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Alfred Molina, John Wood, Peter Stormare, Lena Olin, Carrie-Anne Moss, Juliette Binoche, Leslie Caron, Hugh O'Conor

In the small French village of Lansquenet where life has remained the same for 100 years, the wind of change is about to sweep through it, altering it forever...
Free-spirited wanderer, Vianne Rocher has arrived with her daughter to set up a chocolaterie during the Lenten period of abstinence. Her arrival is frowned upon by some locals but to others, her presence is life-changing. Somehow, almost magically, her delectable treats are tantalising more than just tastebuds - they are curing lost hopes, awakening unexpected passions and fulfilling unspoken desires.
From acclaimed film-maker Lasse Hallstrom (THE CIDER HOUSE RULES, MY LIFE AS A DOG) comes the most sweetly surprising film of the year. Nominated for 5 Academy Awards, and starring Juliette Binoche (The English Patient), Judi Dench (Shakespeare in Love) and Johnny Depp (Blow), CHOCOLAT is the most delicious comic fable - a celebration of difference and a feast for the senses.

Given the setting (small town in France in the 1950s), I found the mish-mash of accents ridiculous - there was UK, US, French, Irish, Miscellaneous European. I will say though, Judi Dench was great and Juliette Binoche was irresistable. Overall the story was reasonably interesting and flowed well. It was ok.

What an amazing movie. Seriously funny at times, at others so poignant you could cry.The bigotry in small villages is depressing, but luckily perseverance won through. Would recommend this film highly

One of the worst movies I have ever seen. New age overtones and touchy feely cods wallop. A brazen plug for headonism and a stab at many of the fundamental values upon which western society is based. The magic of "chocolate" huh. What they are saying is "just follow your passions" and it will all work out. A cathedral in the movie is depicted as the center of the towns problems as it is shown as oppressive. If you get excited over Harry Potter type stuff you'll love it, otherwise avoid it.

An absolute delight, I hesitate to describe it as a fairy story for adults but this is exactly what it it is. I enjoyed it even more than the first wonderful impression gained in the theatre. Every aspect of film making thoughtfully attended to. Dull would he be of soul who did not enjoy this offering. A classic to watch many times.

Absolutely fabulous!! Delicious!! Music, performances and cinematography are fantastic. Juliet Binoche is stunning and as usual delivers such as sincere, believable performance but the supporting cast is also brilliant. Watch out for the absolutely brilliant Alfred Molina The overall experience is like you’ve just eaten the most delicious chocolate in your life.

Enjoyed by the whole family, our 10 year old son loved the humour. Chocolat had a little something for all of us. Romance, humour & eye candy (Johnny Depp for mum, the odd bit of cleavage for dad & of course all that chocolate for the kids to drool over) all interwoven with a storyline of tolerance & personal development.

Was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever had the misfortune to watch. I didn't turn it off because I was sure it would get better, as it couldn't get any worse. No theme, no plot, no story and no real ending. FORGET THIS ONE.
