Strong bloody violence

Director: Neil Marshall
Actors: Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, Noel Clarke, David Morrissey

From director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) comes a brutal and gripping story of courage, passion and survival. The Roman Empire stretches across Europe, from Egypt to Spain, and east as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the onslaught of Roman conquest has ground to a halt in the face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy - the savage tribesmen known as the Picts. Quintus (Michael Fassbender), a confident Roman soldier and sole survivor of a recent raid, marches north with General Virilus' (Dominic West) legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon (Ulrich Thomsen). But when the legion is ambushed and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines. Combining spectacular battle sequences, stunning landscapes and a story steeped in legend, Centurion is an action film of epic scale.

Absolute c**p. Totally historically inacurate in depicting the Roman's methods of fighting. A waste of some good actors.

This movie was OK. An interesting take on what might have happened to the Ninth Roman Legion. The first 30 minutes are very violent but the rest of the movie is less so and worth getting to. Good movie to waste time with

This movie found most interesting and photography and scenery superb even though some scenes brutal and blood curdling, the story line gave some aspect to days of conquest of foreign lands and the intrigues of past still found compelling viewing and recommended

An interesting tale about the legend surrounding the mysterious disappearance of the Ninth Legion in Roman Briton. In the major battle scene the discipline and formation of the Roman Legion prove no match for the guerrilla warfare techniques employed by the native Picts. I knew nothing about the legend of the Ninth Legion prior to watching the film and the film made me curious enough to google it afterwards. Good performances by Michael Fassbender and Dominic West

Fassbender be still my beating heart. I only watched this because of him. The movie is quite average although the scenery is stunning. Too much fight scenes for me. If Fassy and Russell Crowe did a historical movie together I'd self-combust. Four stars for Fassbender.

Frankly Neil Marshal should stick to the Horror genre requesting little money to be effective. Centurion is a low budget and it shows. It's no Gladiator, believe me. The storyline is weak, the violence is gratuitous, the acting is sometimes awkward. You won't give a fxxx of the characters so in the end of the day, this movie is about Romans fighting Picts and the rest is too superficial. We are far from Kurosawa's masterpieces.

A legion of Roman soldiers wage war against the Picts. A movie which explores the legend of a lost legion of soldiers. While obviously done on a tight budget the film nevertheless comes quite well. As usual with this type of thing the women look like they stepped out of a French fashion show. 3.5 stars

Lovingly dwells on blood, gore and killing. But I'd say it was close to the truth.

watched this at a 'girls night in' because it stars the delightful Michael Fassbender (all us girls have SUCH a crush on him!) It was interesting and well done, sufficiently violent and gory. If you like Gladiator you'll probably like this. A very interesting period of history.

I enjoyed this movie. Yes there were lots of heads and limbs removed during the Battle and Fights scenes, which was the normal during those days, I believeld (from the History Channel). There was plenty of the action and I thought that the story line was Ok and reasonablely realistic. I would recommended this movie if you don't mind the violence.

Good film - storyline borrowed much from Butch Cassidy ('How does she do that?' and the jump from the cliff), the Hunting Party and Braveheart plus King AryhurA

Enjoyed this movie but found some parts were too rushed (could have had more history or explanation about some things) and other parts dragged on for too long (like the voilent battle scenes!). If you like these types of movies then definitely recommended but not one to rave about.

didn't know any of the actors, and was rather surprised, a really good film, long but a good decent watch. I didn't really know the history of the story, but I do know.
