The Castle is a hilarious comedy treat critics called one of the year's funniest movies! Even though there's an airport practically running through their backyard, the eccentric Kerrigan clan loves their humble home. But when the airfield needs room to expand, the government says that the Kerrigans have got to go! With an irresistible charm and irrepressible humor everyone is sure to enjoy, the hilarity then really takes flight when this funny family decides to stay and fight for their beloved 'Castle' …no matter how far the conflict goes!

I enjoyed this gentle and sensitive look at a 'nice Aussie family' up against anonymous big business and government. It was not the comedy I expected but wry and very much worth watching.

Four stars is a bit of a stretch, maybe 3 - almost. Entertaining and nostalgic I guess if you're as old as I am.

An absolute classic, which... lets be honest... sums up Australians' lifestyle. It's true that it's not the commerical million dollar budget films that are in cinemas these days - but instead one to truly enjoy!

Terribly overrated. I'm giving it one star in reprisal for the heaps of one-star reviews given to some phenomenal hollywood pictures. Ef-your-couch-Australia!

I know this movie is regarded as bordering on a heritage piece to Australians so I am going to try and be delicate, whilst it is a nice depiction of the little guy vs the faceless corporations its just not as funny as most people claim it is, or perhaps some of it is just lost in translation for non-Australians, but really a good movie shouldnt rely on culture to sell

This film has "classic" written all over it. A great Australian movie, with humour to match. It was nice to watch a flim that didn't have the usual violence and/or bad language, that comes with most films these days. All the characters were very funny, but Michael Caton and Anne Tenney were my favourites by far.

Previously responsible for such television series as "Frontline", "A River Somewhere" and "The Panel", the "Working Dog" production company (consisting of Rob Sitch, Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner and Jane Kennedy) spent all of ten days shooting this ultra-low-budget entry into feature-length film...and finished with a sleeper that would become arguably the most well-known and much-loved Australian comedy ever. Its well-trodden theme of small guys taking the big business to the cleaners, in the form of a conservative family structure with "old-fashioned" morals straight out of White Australia, made it instantly popular, as nostalgic escapism for audiences whose lives are moving far too quickly. The way the writers found the very heart of Australia's working-class myth and transferred it to film contributed largely to its success. The characters are brilliantly written and expertly portrayed by all actors. Yes, "The Castle" is predictable and, in appealing to both ?sides? of politics, promotes very conservative, ?battler? values, but it is a testament to how films should be made - and it's hilarious to boot.

The best comedy to ever come out of Australia. Full of classic lines that have become part of Australian lingo. One of those movies that you can watch again and again and see something new each time. A must see for all Australians and all visitors. My German friends loved it.
