Absolute classic. A must see once in your lifetime. Otherwise every couple of years should do. Ingrid Bergman incredibly beautiful.
One of my favourite 'classic' films so the very high rating follows. With Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains leading a great cast why not? But what struck me most on seeing ti again after many years was not so much the inherant (but charmingly filmed!) sexism or the mystery and ultimate morality of the story line, with love taking centre stage at first, but then unexpectedly being pushed aside by patriotism and support of the allied cause. The great cynic in Bogart is overwhelmed by his devotion to a higher cause.
This is the greatest movie ever made. Every scene fits perfectly building the story. Every scene is beautiful. The story is unforgettable--a boy's perfect dream.
Great movie. I'm 35 and watched it for the first time. Humphrey is very smooth and the characters all put others before themselves throughout this movie when it counts. Romantic
Casablanca has received countless accolades and they are all deserved. At its core is a classic tale of a gut-wrenching decision between personal reward and the greater good. The scene at the end at the airport when Blaine (Bogart) confronts that dilemma is classic cinema. Bogart and Bergman's characters sizzle with sexual frisson, and every scene is charged with tension. It is refreshing to view a dialogue-driven movie that was made in the days before special effects etc. Some films become dated and irrelevant over time, but not this one, it's a masterpiece.
Another all time favourite that I have decided I MUST own. Love all the quirky characters, the subtle messages unspoken between characters, and the sense of patriotism it captures. I think there is a flaw in Bergmann character falling in love with an older man 'who teaches her so much about life'. Doesn't sound like love to me - sounds like teenage infatuation. Also it raises the question whether some people are more worthy of sacrifice than others. I don't think so but you may disagree.
This DVD was sticking in several places. I had to fast forward to overcome the sticking and thereby lost the sense of some parts of the movie. Not impressed.
very good movie.. wanted to see since long.. finally experienced it ! thanks netflix.
I saw this film many years ago, & it was interesting to see how much was remembered. A great film of the time & still is
Refreshing to have entertainment with love interest without the gross presentation in present day movies. Thoroughly enjoyable film for all ages.
Casablanca is one of Hollywood's finest classical icons! Casablanca is a great romance story that is not a bit mushy. One of the interesting relationships in the movie is Rick and Capt. Renault, the police prefect who is played by Claude Rains,
the relationship is of perfect cynicism and one liners that will never be forgotten.
Thoroughly enjoyed catching up with a classic.
I love the classic songs played in the smokey club and also the fashion and interior decoration of the sets were very impressive but I found the movie to be very long, drawn out and mostly boring. It sadly didn't hold my attention for very long.
A great presentation of this classic movie. Even though filmed in B
Great movie - fantastic script/storyline with a perfect ending.
I have watched this timeless classic over and over again and never tire of it. It is truly one of the all time greats. It has everything that makes it so enjoyable - a treasure to behold.
Amazing movie - it sure does deserve to be a classic. Worth seeing.
I was surprised how uch I enjoyed this lovely old classic. Worth the time.
One of the truly enduring classics. A timeless film.
Great classic movie with great classic lines! I'm a hopeless romantic and can watch it time and time again and still enjoy it.
very boring
and not worth the hipe
A truly remarkable movie full of unrequited love, mystery, ruthless characters and wonderful music. Just love watching Ingrid Bergman's interaction with Bogart so classically beautiful and expressive...
Here's looking at you kid!!!
Fantastic movie,great old time movie
I love the bit where Ingrid Bergman asks with a straight face, "Are they bombs falling...or my heart pounding?" Just let yourself go with it and enjoy the romance.
I feel really bad about this - I tried to watch this classic movie but after 10 mins or so, gave up! It just seems so cliched and highly dramatic, I find it really hard to watch old movies, they just don't interest me.
This is a classic movie which has lost nothing with the passage of time. It holds your interest all the way, and there are no whiz-bang special effects to grab the viewer, just the sheer class of the movie.
Finally I know where all those classic lines have come from. I was almost expecting this film to have dated terribly, but I was surprised. What a great film.
Great classic to watch over and over
Great Movie - which is why its a classic
Nothing to compare with this- as ever
I've seen it a dozen times, still love it!
Surely the greatest movie ever made, it has everything such as suspense, comedy drama and those classic lines! If this isn't at least in your top ten then there's no hope for you.
The mystique surrounding this film in itself makes it worthwhile watching; it is also interesting to look back on the social mores of that time.
This is a movie classic, but to really appreciate it, it needs to be viewed on the cinema screen.
In my opinion there is no greater movie made. Nearly every scene has a famous piece of dialogue and the cast deliver it perfectly. It had drama, comedy, romance and action. It is easy to see why most 'top ten' lists put this one at the top. This is a movie that should please most, no matter what genre you prefer (except maybe horror). 10/10.
Wonderful classic. Ingrid Bergman at her best. Fine black and white photography.
Classic movie - great actors and story.
very good movie the plot thickens
A old time classic which delivers it all...a oldie but a goodie...with long gone stars from hollywoods begining in Humphrey BOGART and ingrid Burgman....who stared in many movies now looked at as classics...black and white set in early war time with germany....bit slow ...but well worth the watch....if only for historic value....definetly a family movie.....actors looked a projecting current values of the day...if it was.nt the norm it was,nt shown....where today...anything goes....role modeling is something our actor/sport stars could consider today and take a leaf out of the old book.....loved it.
An absolute classic. So many lines of dialog have become part of our language - see who said it first. Play it again Sam!
Look up classic in the Oxford and you should see one word...Casablanca.
I have seen it several times and much has been written about this film. My two cents worth of opinion is that if you had to see only one film from this period, this would have to be it. This film is as perfect as any can be. It has a good pace; it is compact and every scene counts; it has wonderful characters, each one interesting; it deals with big themes; it tells a story which encapsulates the period; the dialogue is tight; the humour is warm; the tragedy worldly; the personal triumphs inspiring. And ofcourse beautiful Ingrid Bergman is alone worth the price of admission.
A lovely film, with humour & poignancy. How the people must have loved it in the dark ays of WWII.
"Here's looking at you kid.." now I know why Humphrey Bogart's a sex symbol.
A classic mystery and intrigue story portrayed by outstanding, timeless actors.
Just wonderful (again!). A marvellous mix of mystery, intrigue, and nostalgia, with outstanding characters portrayed by excellent actors.
A classic, never tire viewing it
It's no wonder this movie always tops the list of best movies ever made at all time.
The best movie of all time. The resolution is uncertain to the very end, even after watching the movie many times! The musical theme is outstanding.
