The Burlesque Lounge has its best days behind it. Tess (Cher), a retired dancer and owner of the venue, struggles to keep the aging theatre alive, facing all kinds of financial and artistic challenges. With the Lounge's troupe members becoming increasingly distracted by personal problems and a threat coming from a wealthy businessman's quest to buy the spot from Tess, the good fortune seems to have abandoned the club altogether. Meanwhile, the life of Ali (Christina Aguilera), a small-town girl from Iowa, is about to change dramatically. Hired by Tess as a waitress at the Lounge, Ali escapes a hollow past and quickly falls in love with the art of burlesque. Backed by new-found friends amongst the theatre's crew, she manages to fulfil her dreams of being on stage herself. Things take a dramatic turn though when Ali's big voice makes her become the main attraction of the revue.

Let's face facts, you would only watch this movie for the music and the dancing, not the story. And from that point of view it delivers. Having said that, I didn't mind the story, it 's just cliched and been done before, but how many original movies are there?

On the surface, this rags to riches tale has it all - the lavish production values, the big song numbers, eye-popping costumes (and that's just in Cher's dressing room). All the megawatt star power in the Universe can't save this flick. Christina Aguilera isn't exactly Meryl Streep (and I'm being kind) and Cher well, Cher is Cher - lipglossed to within an inch of her life and trying desperately to salvage her Moonstruck glory. But the story? Well - it had potential - but the predictability grates, the dialogue will make you laugh when it's not meant to and the male lead wasn't worthy of his close-ups - sorry. Burlesque didn't cut it for me.

The story line was very predictable but also predicted that would happen! However the dancing but mostly Christinas singing was spine tingling and that forgave the story line. Loved it.

The plot was kind of extraneous, I fast-forwarded most of it after about the first half. However Christina's voice is just amazing and the song and dance routines were pretty spectacular, so I'd say it's worth a watch for that.

Very entertaining. Chrisina has such a great voice and prescence on the stage. Cliched story but that was expected.
What was with that young man's (love interest) eyebrows??!! Did they let the apprentice beautician wax them?
The out takes were very wierd ....lots of Christina fluffing stuff and giggling, with the other actors just sitting there, staring at her. Must have happened a lot :S
If the outtakes aren't going to be funny don't put them in! These were just embarrassing.

A combination of Chicago, Moulin Rouge and Coyote Ugly. Music, dancing and costumes like Chicago and Moulin Rouge but the predictable and uneventful storyline of Coyote Ugly. They even have the same “my money got stolen from my predictable hiding spot” scene. Christina has an awesome voice and I love Cher, even when she does subpar movies. Watch it if you like musicals, sparkly costumes and dancing, but don’t expect much.

I LOVED this movie, but i love this genre. The dancing sequences are great, costumes better.... for what it was the storyline was a tad weak and predidctable, but nonetheless i found it a captivating movie. It made me laugh AND cry and i thought CA did an awesome job! PLUS, CAM G is a pleasure to watch! It really made me want to get up and dance burlesque! hehe. loved it immensley!

Christina Aguilera is actually an OK actress, it flows quickly and the song/dance routines are catchy and glitzy. I was a little distracted by Cher's lips, but she was good too. Yes...stunning costumes, dance sequences, and sets. Yes... Cher is wonderful as always but SO let down by a mediocre script and character part; but holds her own with elegance,wit and dignity. Yes... Christina's talent is awesome and worth every minute she explodes on stage. But c'mon guys ! This was really just one more BIG video clip for Miss Aguilera. And I could have gone to YouTube for that ! What a shame, because this could have been so much better with a little ORIGINALITY. I feel so sorry for all the other talent in the film that missed out on a decent fair "show".

Costumes are fabulous and Stanley Tucci is ok, but it's just a vehicle for Cher and Christina to warble and trill away. Predictable as hell, and if you don't know the ending within half an hour, you're not paying attention!

Interesting genre - the acting was woeful (obviously the director could get very little out of Cher) and the script and story line ordinary and predictable in that order. The dancing was very pop-diva and the cinematography could have been a lot better - too many close ups of the dancing which, whilst not that good, could have been given the benefit of the doubt. However, the singing was world class but there were shades of All That Jazz, 42nd Street and Cabaret in the dancing - they say that copying something is the highest form of flattery.

I saw this at the movies yesterday and LOVED IT!! It may not appeal to everyone and some may say it's predictable, but I adored the razzle-dazzle, the music, the costumes, the amazing dancers, the iconic Cher and spunky Stanley Tucci (both excellent), the extremely handsome young actor Cam Gigandet as Christina's love interest, AND the totally amazing Christina Aguilera and THAT VOICE. She can act, dance and boy, can she sing, her voice is phenomenal. I wanted to applaud at the end!
