He's got the power.

Bruce Nolan is a local Eyewitness News TV reporter in Buffalo, New York, best known for doing human interest stories--which makes everyone happy but him. Bruce would much rather be replacing the soon-to-retire anchorman. Essentially, Bruce is disconnected with everything in his life and rarely misses an opportunity to complain about it. He has a loving girlfriend, Grace, who runs a day care center and adores Bruce in spite of his negativity.

Bruce is handed a great opportunity when he's asked to do the 23rd anniversary of Niagra Falls' famed Maid of the Mist boat, which will air live during sweeps. But the mist hits the fan when it's announced on-air--just before Bruce goes live--that the co-anchor position, about to be vacated, is going to Bruce's superficial rival. In front of millions of viewers, Bruce has an on-camera meltdown, punctuated by a four-letter word not yet cleared for network television. On this worst day of Bruce's life, he's fired from the station, beaten up by a gang of toughs, and his car is vandalized. Furious, Bruce rails and rages against the Lord for his rotten luck--which is followed by a curious set of signs, one of which leads him to an old building called Omni Presents, Inc. There, Bruce meets a janitor who reveals himself to be who he really is--God! He's heard Bruce's complaints and now has an offer for the choleric newscaster--his job. By endowing Bruce with all his powers, God challenges him to take on the job and see if he can do any better!

Pretty good, but not as good as Evan Almighty (which I saw first). It belabored the point a bit too long. The acting was good, though -- Carey did a good job.

I regard Jim Carey films like a car crash; I dont like them but cant not look at one. A surprisingly benevolent nod to theists too. Jennifer Aniston has never really registered on my radar but I thought she was really very good in this.

Loved it! Great concept and well executed in the inimitable Jim Carrey style we have grown to love.

This was funny and a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It's not offensive at all.

This is a horrible film, based around the X-tian god, not the God of the Bible! Only watch this if you want to see the woeful ideas people have about the true God. This film shows the "god of this world" (see 2 Corinthians 4:3,4), namely Satan.

It was excellent but too much emphasis of being God and having all the powers(this may be offensive for religious people).

What a waste of a great idea. If you were given the powers of God would you use them to get your old job back? I could think of a million more interesting things to do.

Lame-o! Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston would have to be the worst actors I have ever seen and together there is just no chemistry whatsoever. Bit too heavy on all the religious stuff too.

This film relies, for once, less on the maniac comedy of Carey to make us chuckle. Freemen makes a poor God and the script is again limited for Shadyac. I have to admit the possession of the newsreader scene was the last time i laughed so hard that my eyes were watering and i found it hard to breathe.

Good humour with a human side. Mr C is a great actor, and unlike some of his other films he has a serious stint in this movie which brings out his serious side. I wasn't disappointed, good acting all round, a real crowd pleaser.

Typical Jim Carrey movie. At times over the top, but most times hilarious. Bonus features excellent, also.

I thought this was a very clever and well scripted movie. Morgan Freeman plays a great role and Cary is more likeable than some of his previous goofier roles. I got a real kick out of this movie.

A good all-round entertaining movie for the family. Funny in many parts with it's own version of a message. Morgan Freeman does a good God, so to speak.

Enough funny stuff to warrant watching this one. Carrey is nuts :) and sometimes I cringe when watching him, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this film. Morgan Freeman is fabulous as usual. It would probably help enhance the film if you are a Jennifer Anniston fan, I'm not, and I still enjoyed the film.

A typical Jim Carrey movie. Later through the movie it takes a more serious turn with a moral value but still manages to keep the flow of humour. If you’re a fan of JC’s I’d get this movie as some of the things he gets up to are hilarious. Morgan Freeman plays the part of God very well with some witty humour.

Definately not the usual Jim Carrey comedy. A very funny movie that as it goes on has some deep and meaningful moments. Overall a terrific movie that will make you laugh as well as think.

Entertaining, feel good movie - Cary is toned down from his usual hyper antics for those who normally find him too full-on.

This is one of Jim Carreys better efforts with his usual rubber-faced antics tempered by a strong but light hearted comedic story. Don't miss the outtakes in the credits - these are additional to the outtakes in the bonus features. The bonus features also include significant deleted scenes, incluidng their context ad commentary, making it more interesting than the usual collections of cutting room floor items. The brief special feature on working with Jim Carrey is also interesting - and funny.

Funnier than i thought it would be. The "possession" of the newsreader by Bruce is very funny.

Excellent but get the full genius behind Jim Carey and watch the bloopers and the other behind the scenes views. This really shows how he works and just how clever the man really is!

We watched this over and over. Everymember of our family thought something was funny and in fact we loved it.. not a huge Carey fan we had to say that this was very clever.
Chris

A good watch, better than expected. The often irritating Jim Carrey is surprisingly good, and whilst the plot is typically American, i.e. simplistic and moralistic, the end result is a film worth watching.

I enjoyed it. Light comedy - good rental, but glad I didn't got the the pictures for it. Jim Carey wasn't nearly as annoying as he can be - it was a relatively straight role for him.

Jim Carrey doing what he does best - making us laugh, and in this case, making us think as well. The old adage of 'be careful what you wish for' is true for this movie. The special features show some great out takes and a look at what makes Jim Carrey tick. If you like Jim Carrey you will enjoy this film.
