Violence and coarse language

Director: Rian Johnson
Actors: Mark Ruffalo, Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody, Rinko Kikuchi, Robbie Coltrane

Welcome to the world of the brothers Bloom, where deception is an art and nothing is as it seems. The brothers have perfected the art of swindling fortunes through years of fraternal teamwork. Now they've decided to take on one last spectacular job - luring a beautiful and eccentric heiress into an elaborate plot that takes them around the world. For as long as they can remember, the Brothers Bloom have had only each other to depend on. From their childhood in a long series of gloomy foster homes to their high-flying lives as international con artists, Stephen (Mark Ruffalo) and Bloom (Adrien Brody) have shared everything. Stephen brilliantly concocts intricate stories that the brothers live out, but he's still searching for the perfect con, the one where "everyone gets what they want." Meanwhile, Bloom yearns for "an unwritten life" - a real adventure, one not dreamed up by his old brother. Eager to retire, Bloom agrees to take part in one last grand scam. He insinuates himself into the life of Penelope (Rachel Weisz), a bored, single New Jersey heiress. When a genuine romance begins to blossom between them, he is reluctant to exploit her naiveté, but Penelope has already taken the bait: She impulsively joins Bloom, Stephen and their "associate," a sexy Japanese explosives expert named Bang Bang (Rinko Kikuchi), on an ocean liner to Greece. Penelope is convinced she's happened upon the adventure of a lifetime and offers to bankroll a million dollar deal. As the quartet makes their way from Athens to Prague to Mexico to St Petersburg, Penelope quickly becomes addicted to the illicit thrills. But as Stephen's elaborate web of deceit pulls tighter, Bloom begins to wonder if his brother has devised the most dangerous con of his life.

It's a silly, flippy little take on the heist genre that is lacks the usually predictability that comes with the genre but retains many of the same old tropes. The acting in pretty decent, a little wooden at times maybe but never bad enough to take you out of it, and it moves along at a good pace. If you're a fan of heist/con-man films and don't mind some silly, slightly sappy but exceedingly modern romance thrown in give it a look. I guarantee worst case scenario you're only mildly entertained.

I enjoyed Rachel Weisz in this, as I do in most movies she appears in, but overall, there was something lacking. It was quirky and had moments of humour and interest, but just didn't hold my full interest or leave me wanting more.

I read the reviews before watching the movies which may have influenced me. However, I'd have to say I endured 10 minutes of it before I could endure no more. Really bad!!!!

Strange little movie - but held our interest. Found the older brother a pain in the bum and very frustrating to watch.

this is a really good movie. so much to enjoy on several levels. The visual humour in the background, the great banter. The cons are great, albeit a bit clunky sometimes. But the acting is first class all the way.watch it, Pay attention and your in for a treat.

Like the Lovely Bones I watched it through to the end just to see what would happen even though it wasn't all that good. The ending was stupid and predictable although the story along the way was at times mildly interesting so I gave this one two stars. Don't rush out to see this one.

It's hard to decide what is real and what is a con, but then that's the whole idea of the movie. A bit slow in parts, funny in others.

Very, very different - a bit "odd" and very quirky. I actually laughed out loud in many places. I agree with Margaret F that there was a touch of Tarantino to it the style reminded me of Kill Bill in some ways). Very funny and I loved it!

This movie is to cinema what Mills & Boon is to literature. There is a very good reason why you failed to notice it playing at your local cinema which is, in itself, a testament to the collective good taste of the Australian movie-going public. Read a book or watch the telly instead.

As a 'con' 'set up type of movie, it doesn't play to the usual script. perservere with the unusual and enjoy the bizarre! Bang Bang is brilliant!! I thought it was comical in parts and quite the take on the regular scripts out there. I loved it. My 16 yr old son even sat through it and enjoyed the story , finding it quite sad with the ending.

What a weird movie, quality acting by Ruffalo & Brody but the script was disjointed and hard to follow. It involved two brothers that have been coning people since childhood, there was so much deceit & intrigue we got LOST in the plot. We only found out what really happened once we watched the deleted scenes & special bonuses. Bit to clever for us hence the 2 rating
