Jamie Conway (Michael J. Fox) is an aspiring writer who trades the wheat fields of Kansas for the imposing skyline of Manhattan - and the seductive party culture hidden within. When Jamie hits the club scene to enliven his nights and deaden his pain, he takes it to the limit... until the limit threatens to take away everything and everyone he's ever loved. Kiefer Sutherland and Phoebe Cates co-star in this adaptation of Jay McInerney's novel.

These "reviewers" just don't get this flick. It's a classic 80's experience: great (/bad) fashion, synth-ridden music, insight into the excesses of 80's big city lifestyle, which have now become so normal they're almost passe. Michael J. Fox gives a brilliant, nuanced performance of a man trying to live inside the chaos of the high life. His mother's died, his wife has left him, his best & seemingly only friend, is a jerk & his job is a painful, utterly boring series of chores. He wishes to be a writer but he's unable to get out of the gridlock of his day-to-day experience. So, he turns to coke. The soundtrack is great & the Direction by James Bridges is sophisticated and smooth. This is a film for adults - which should be a refreshing point of difference for viewers. The screenplay by Jay McInerney is based on his popular book of the same name. Highly recommended. 4 stars.

A movie totally out of character of Michael J Fox. The actor must REALLY have been desperate for work with this. Portraying drug use in every other scene, or excess alcohol consumption.., a film with no beginning, middle or an end, with polific language. MJF must have been on drugs to accept the job, The director must have been on drugs while directing. The substances being "used" in the scenes, must have been real.., I want my evening back.. luckily it was census night so i had a frame of mind to fill the form out while the movie was playing.
