Director: Sharon Maguire
Actors: Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Gemma Jones

From the makers of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill comes the screen adaptation of Helen Fielding's international best seller starring Golden Globe winner Renee Zellweger (from Nurse Betty and Jerry Maguire) in the title role as the dynamic, irrepressible and outrageously original Bridget Jones.
32-year-old Bridget smokes too much, drinks too much and has a tendency to say whatever's on her mind. As a New Year's resolution she decides it's time to take control of her life - and starts keeping a diary. Now, the most provocative, erotic and hysterical book on her bedside table is the one she's writing. With a taste for adventure and an opinion on every subject - from exercise to men to food to sex and everything in between - she's turning the page on a whole new life.
The fireworks begin when her charming though disreputable boss played by Hugh Grant (from Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill) takes an interest in the quirky Miss Jones and the ups and downs of their ill-fated relationship prove hilarious. Thrown into the mix are Bridget's band of slightly eccentric friends and a rather disagreeable acquaintance (Colin Firth from Shakespeare in Love) that Bridget cannot seem to stop running into or help finding quietly attractive.

Didn't mind Bridget. Funny believable characters - at least in my world. Nice light entertainment.

The ultimate chickflick! Fun and at times to true. The voice over makes this movie. All the actors are wonderful and it stayed pretty true to the book. Some parts of the book are actually played out in the second movie.

Everything that a romantic comedy should be. Well written and acted; it is funny, engaging, witty, punchy and just a little bit silly. An excellent cast, with Zellweger providing and very passable mid-30s, single, professional (somewhat) woman. Firth does a softer interpretation of his seminal role as Jane Austen's Darcy and Hugh Grant is a frop-ish as ever. A good movie for a quiet night in with a glass of wine or two!

One of the better chick flicks. Entertaining and Hugh didn't sicken with his usual bumbling Brit act. A trashy indulgence.

An excellent chick flick, even though I can bet that many men have been dragged in kinking and screaming to watch it. Has a great story and so many laugh out loud moments. Its such an inspirational film for the single women, I could relate so much with Bridget! Has a rocking soundtrack and a lot of attitude. A girl power movie that's not over the top with a great story and loveable characters

Brilliant adaption of a brilliant book. Casting Hugh and Colin was perfect and Renee Zellweger does a fantastic job as the completely imperfect Bridget. I'm not usually a fan of romantic comedy but this one gets a bit thumbs up from me.

Not generally very harsh on movies, however I watched it for the second time to see if I still found it pathetic and generally unfunny. My opinion was confirmed.

A real classic and not just a chick flick. Renee Zellwegger plays an excellent Bridget and even gets the accent right which for a Yank is very hard. Hugh Grant plays himself as usual and as usual is right on the money.
