Actors: Martin Balsam, Mickey Rooney, Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, Buddy Ebsen, Patricia Neal

The names Audrey Hepburn and Holly Golightly have become synonymous since this dazzling romantic comedy was translated to the screen from Truman Capote's best-selling novella. Holly is a deliciously eccentric New York City playgirl determined to marry a Brazilian millionaire. George Peppard plays her next-door neighbor, a writer who is "sponsored" by a wealthy Patricia Neal. Guessing who's the right man for Holly is easy. Seeing just how that romance blossoms is one of the enduring delights of this gem-like treat set to Henry Mancini's Oscar-winning score and the Oscar-winning Mancini-Johnny Mercer song "Moon River."

Other reviewers seem obsessed with Capote's original novella and criticize this movie saying that it's not the same as the book. Well - get over it. A movie is not a book! This is a Hollywood romance with some slapstick thrown in to balance the pathos. Would a more downbeat drama be a "better" film? Despite the treatment, the deeper issues of identity and truth ("She's a real phony") still shine through. Audrey Hepburn plays a character re-inventing herself in NYC. Like Don Draper in Mad Men, Holly Golightly has discarded her rural family. It *is* a stretch to imagine the svelte and sophisticated Hepburn as an overweight child bride - Capote's original choice of Marilyn Monroe in the role might have worked better. Sadly, Norma Jeane's star was fading. In any case, Hepburn's performance was iconic. Nobody can deny that. The supporting cast are strong, in particular Buddy Ebsen and Patricia Neal. In my opinion, Peppard is stoic not wooden as some think. And what about that cat!

Audrey Hepburn is supreme. Loved it Loved it Loved it! Funny, quirky and gave another slant on the era - usually quite strait laced and proper films - this was just a little risque. The sex was always implied as opposed to the embarrassing situations our actors have to cope with these days. And as always less is more. Could turn around and watch it again right now!

A classic perhaps, undoubtedly an unforgettable theme and song in Moon River, and certainly a gorgeous lead in Audrey Hepburn. But she plays one of the most crazily stupid and most annoying characters ever created. Still it's a love story when the plot finally gets around to it.

Was very disappointing movie, considering it is regarded as a classic. The best part was Audrey Hepburn's clothes. Didn't finish watching the movie.

A classic movie and one that everyone should watch. Great dresses and I loved the Cat! I watched the movie first, then the extras, then the movie again. Picked up on somethings that I missed the first time. Didn't like the "Japanese" neighbour.

My friends were surprised I hadn?t seen this movie sooner. But I?d always written it off as just a love story. No, they said, it?s more than that. Well, really it isn?t. It?s exactly that. Sure, the path has been made more stony in ways that were probably quite provocative in their day (though tame today). But the whole centre of the story is how will he end up with her? Yes, there are fabulous frocks and George Peppard is the very definition of handsome but I was rather underwhelmed by the total package. And Mickey Rooney playing an angry JAPANESE neighbour was bizarre, badly done and vaguely offensive.

a real classic, with subtext and subtlety and the occasional drift into sentimentality but a performance from AH that has become a defining cinematic turn.

We saw this film when we were around 16 & loved it????....should have left it that way. Back then did'nt realise they were both prostitutes !!! Extremely slow movie, basic storyline 'wooden acting' by today's comparison. Hepburn is stunning but overacts. Great song ! Should have turn it off but remain till the end due to loyality to our youthful memories.

Such a delight! To see a classic like this for the first time was wonderful. It's dated in its way, but also timeless. My teenage daughters watched it with me and we all fell in love with Holly and George. Its a bit like watching "Sex in the City' in the 50 's, Impossibly glamorous people partying non stop, the party scene in Holly's apartment is a classic. The dialogue is so sophisticated and funny, when Holly breaks into George' apartment for the first time and tells him she'll get her own drink because he must be exhausted after entertaining his female 'sponsor', it's funny but non judgemental because Holly is doing the same thing. It is the ultimate romantic film, where love between two people may save you from the cold realities of life if you let it. The scene where Holly rushes to save Cat, is where she is finally saving herself. So lovely.

Not what I expected - it was actually a little disturbing. Audrey would have to be the most beautiful woman ever born, and it was good to see George Peppard without Mr T

I cant still why this would be a classic. It was quite boring in parts. Not as Romantic as the reviews say. I much prefer Singin in the Rain to this and I even found this one a little ordinary too.

It is worth seeing one of the "classics", made when a movie depended on the actors and Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard have not let us down. The long enduring Japanese man upstairs is also good, is it Mickey Rooney?
