Life's little turning points often come in the plainest forms. A casual encounter, a little oversight, a strange coincidence, a twist of fate. When a tour bus leaves without bored housewife and dutiful mother, Rosalba, during a family holiday and not even her husband or children notice until it is too late, see sees an irresistible opportunity for freedom.

Bread and Tulips isn't so much about the difficult decisions we make in life, but the ones we make almost out of instinct.....the wonderful, crazy spontaneity that makes us human. Everything about this film will put you in a good mood!

Really enjoyed this film - good light, non-violent, 'veg-out' entertainment, yet with enough substance to leave you thinking after it was over....

A cute, happy movie and very enjoyable viewing. The scene at the dinner table with the petals falling was priceless.

Nice little story with engaging characters. Not too deep and totally unrealistic, but enjoyable nontheless.

Definitely a feel good movie. I liked the plot and the way it touched on somewhat sad subjects with quirkiness and comedy. I thought the lead actress did a great job - she really drew me in and I fell in love with her character. It definitely put a smile on my face.

A cautionary tale about taking people for granted. Take note! Charming movie with a real Italian flavour, but uncharacteristically understated. The fact that it is mainly shot in Venice is a bonus but the city doesn't steal the show, that's done by Bruno Ganz et.al.

Rosalba had probably never seriously thought of taking a break from her husband and two children, but when she's left behind at a roadside cafe during a coach tour, she decides not to hang about waiting, but to hitch a ride home and enjoy a couple of days of peace and quiet. But on the road to Venice, while in the driver's seat, she makes an instant decision to ignore the sign to Pescara, her home town, and keeps driving. For her first night in Venice she finds a pension, but that closed down the next day. For the second night, with little money left, a kindly but rather sad looking waiter, Fernando, at a cheap little restaurant she visits, offers his lounge for her to sleep on, and soon gives her his junk room. In the meantime she finds a job in a florists run by an anarchist, Fermo, and gets to know the whacky holist beautician, Grazia, in the next apartment, who turns her hand to other activities. Mimmo, her husband back home is far from happy with his runaway wife and, to track her down, has hired a private detective, Constantino, who is really just a softy mother's-boy-out-of-work plumber with an insatiable appetite for detective novels. A clever script with believable characters, despite their quirkiness, and wonderful performances from the actors playing Rosalba and Fernando, this movie was received with accolades by the Italian public, and quite rightly so.

This movie reminds you of normal life around you. The characters are so real. It did not entertain me much because of the above. But I guess the idea of the movie is to portray normal life and it succeeds.

Have seen it several times and really liked it. Makes you realise that you dont have to put up with bullying from friends and family. If they dont appreciate you, give them the flick.

A very good study of characters and a very interesting depiction of "boring" modern family life. The bored, ignored, shirt-ironing wife/mother. The busy, arrogant, know-it-all, womaniser husband. The bored, confused, drug-user son. The lonely, past criminal, bad father, warm-hearted grandfather, suicidal old man. The anarchist, angry, "softy", flower shop owner. The "dumb", tarty, friendly masseuse beautician. The silly, "big child", dominated-by-his-mother, plumber/investigator. And many other peripheral characters, each with its distinctive marks. Excellent movie.

This charming romance, set arround the unfrequented parts of Venice is a romantic comedy in the Grande European style (no added sugar - it's sweet enough).

This film was a delight from start to finish. The story moved along at a fast pace and was always engaging. The actors were all superb and suited to their part. The location - Venice was a star of this film also. The music was captivating and suitably lively and romantic. I would highly recommend Bread and Tulips as a film in the best humanist tradition of European films. Warm funny well crafted.

It was a magic movie! There was a chauvinistic husband who deserved his comeuppance. The romantic city of Venice really enhanced the story and revived fond memories I have of Venezia. DO WATCH!!

This film is a joyous event. If you liked Amelie, you'll probably like this. There's the ogle factor (Venice - beautiful!) and superb acting. It's a fairytale about middle-aged people and a romance that transcends ordinariness. It's a gentle and atmospheric love story that you'll carry with you for days.
