This documentary talks’ about the surf culture, the people of Maroubra, as well as their stories and upbringing in a lower socioeconomic background. Every story has two sides, on one side the media and the outsiders name the Bra Boys as a gang, however on the other side they are really a close group of mates that are going through a thought time building a support network. This movie explores themes such as brotherhood, mateship and protecting each other. As well as showing how the beach and the surf saved them from a life of crime and violence. This doco is a must see for anyone living in the south Sydney area as anyone who sees the bra boys as a ‘gang’.

Not a bad doco considering it was made by amatuers. Felt it should have a higher adult rating as I felt the material was very explicit for impressionable tweens

Well I didnt know there was gangs in the surf clubs in Sydney let alone anywhere else, I did tho remember the riots at Cronulla by those lebbo's so this is an interesting insight to those gangs

Not a bad watch at all. But when compared with the factual irrefutable truth about essentially a 'Gang of Boneheaded Thugs', I thought it was just so much propaganda trying to make louts 'Decent'.

As a documentary, this just didn't seem to have much to say, and as a surf movie the quality of the shots just wasn't up to much. Felt like I'd been watching it for hours by the 40 minute mark, never a good sign.

Great movie, a bit like romper stomper in that it gives most of us a look into a culture we wouldn't normally see. Very well put together.

Interesting to see the surfing but otherwise just like a home movie about a family of surfers who got more fame from the charges against them than their surfing.

Fantastic, it's good to finally see a documentary which doesn't bore your to death & foesn't make you want to go to sleep. It just shows the struggles of every day aussies & shows that just because you live in Maroubra doesn't always mean you live in a nice expensive house. They also show the fact Aussies aren't racist, the bondi riots were caused by people claiming to be Aussies

Interesting 'history' of the race riots and events surrounding that time, but this truly is a marketing pitch where they are telling you the sweetened version of events according to them. Some good surfing footage. It's difficult to love this movie if you don't agree with their choices

Educational doco. For someone who doesn't no much about the surfing scene it was an eye opener and presents the other side of what can often be a negative media perception

I found this surprisingly moving - the relationship between the Abberton brothers, forged as it has been through shared traumas and joy made me wish for the same kind of love and loyalty in my own family. The hard questions haven't been ignored but if you are looking for an expose of crime or violence you will be disappointed. The footage of huge waves is breathtaking, but this is above all else a film about the bonds between brothers.

Interesting look at the inner-workings of the infamous surfer gang of the south sysdney area. Bra Boys provides an insight to the backgrounds of many of the more prominent members of the gang, attributing the many strugges of these individuals and the socio-economic culture as the reason why so many youths in the area turn to the Bra-Boys for both brotherhood and protection. More of a soft-sell piece created by the Bra-Boys to offset some of the flack that they received leading up to and folowing the infamous Cronulla riots. The director has tended to gloss over the actual riots and focussed more on the reconciliation aspects, and on 'reaching' disadvantaged youths who it argues would otherwise end up on the streets. Contains compelling interviews and narrative, although the structure of the story may lead you to beeive that the whole 'riot' was a beat-up and realy nothing to do with the Bra Boys.

Some of the production of this film (like audio levels) was a bit B grade, but the overall film was interesting. Is nice to see the softer, loving and vulnerable side to the notorious gang... Perhaps would have been good to also see a little of the 'bad' side of them too though....
