How far would you go to get what you want? In the end booth of an anonymous diner sits a man who people come to with their problems and desires. He offers them each a deal, they must perform a task, tell him the details and they will get what they want - rob a bank to be prettier, kill a stranger's child to save a cancer-stricken son. Whether they agree and fulfill their side of the bargain is entirely up to them, he emphasizes that it does not matter to him whether or not the task is completed. The choice is always up to the other person. The stories overlap and complications start to rise as the programme has you in its grip. Is the man in the booth the devil or God? Here to run a casual finger over our consciences and take our moral pulse, or is he only a metaphorically diabolical sociopath with an ingenious method of multiplying and feeding on other people's pain?

This is part Sci-Fi, part drama, part insight into human psychology. It is interesting but gets kinda dull after a while as it does rely almost exclusively on the acting talent (which is excellent by the way), rather than the visuals. It could almost be just as effective as a radio drama (do they still do those?). Anyway, worth watching if you like to think about consequences of actions and morality. Just who is the man in the booth at the end? The mystery continues in season two....

This is the (entire) first season of a TV series which ran on Canadian TV in August 2010 with 5 x 22 minute episodes. Shot entirely in the diner, at the last booth by the window. Well written and acted, it kept me wondering how it was all going to turn out. There's apparently going to be a second season sometime around the end of 2012. I will be renting that season too.
