MEDIUM LEVEL SEX SCENES, MEDIUM LEVEL VIOLENCE, DRUG USE

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Actors: Burt Reynolds, William H. Macy, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, Don Cheadle, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Heather Graham, Mark Wahlberg, Nicole Parker

In 1977, a kid from nowhere had a dream of becoming somebody. It was a time when the sex was safe. The sex was business and business was booming. Eddie Adams (MARK WAHLBERG; Fear, Baskerball Diaries) AKA Dirk Diggler knew he had something to offer to somebody, and that somebody turned out to be biggest thing in the porn industry had ever seen. Boogie Nights takes a sharp-edged view of the adult entertainment industry. A realistic depiction of classic seventies L.A., set amongst a background of discos, drugs and decade long parties.

This flick is long and makes you feel so exhausted, so much coarse language, drug use, gun use, vanity and stupidity... At the end vanity and stupidity prevails! I honestly regret I have wasted my time on this piece of rubbish.

Absolutely love this film, an intelligent and respectful depiction of the early days of the porn business. It shows how it can affect the lives of nobody's who are wanting to become somebody's in both extremely positive ways but also at other times creating some very destructive scenarios. The self-dillusion of Burt Reynolds as a "great filmmaker" is genius and the Brock Landers movies he creates is comedy gold!!! Revolving around the lives of several people of whom are all interesting characters to follow, Mark Walberg shines as "Dirk Diggler" the starstruck kid who rises to the top of porn but then comes crashing down. Fantastic movie.

Mark Wahlberg stars as the young not too sharp fella who enters the pornography industry in the 1970's & 1980's. Also stars Julianne Moore, Heather Graham, Burt Reynolds as top dog. Not a bad show but a bit outdated now.

Written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, this brilliant movie is full of great characters, brilliant performances, humour and drama. At about 2 and a half hours, the film is probably too long but never drags. Wahlberg has never been better. Julianne Moore is brilliant as always, as are Burt Reynolds, WIlliam H Macy, John C Reilly and Don Cheadle. The cinematography is just superb and is accompanied by a great soundtrack that evokes the times. Some of the set pieces in the film are cinema at its absolute best. Highly recommended.

Interesting to say the least. It was quite long so they could have happily cut a little out. Loved Mark Wahlberg (as usual). TERRIFIC ending. Haha

This is an excellent movie with a sympathetic look at Hollywood's porn industry. These are honest and likable people trying for their share of movie fame. Not everybody can be a big phoney star with one of the big studios.

Probably not for everyone and, as it turns out, it took me a while to get into it. But well worth a look. A great cast in a fine film.

This film is great. Great cinematography, great soundtrack, great dialogue. Something to keep in mind that it is a dark comedy, most people who dont like it dont realize this.

The biographical film about john holmes, a real porn star, easily tops this film. Very little happens for such a long film. The film seems to have a message that bad things happen to people around the production of porn. It was a very shallow film, with shallow characters. It shows just how bad the 1970's were. At least it isn't as sanitised as 70's Show.

BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT!!! The genius writer-director P.T. Anderson really delivers in Boogie Nights, a gripping story that takes us trhought the highs and lows of Dirk Diggler, a well-endowed porn star, as he rises and falls *no pun intended, in the L.A. Porn industry. There's a stunning performance from Julianne Moore in her break-through role as a fading, drug addict, porn star fighting for custody of her son, as well as kudos to Burt Reynolds, Macy, and surprisingly, from Mark Wahlberg too. Boogie nights is an unforgettable film that will touch you (*also no pun intended, hehe), in a profound way, that you never would have expected. Film making at it's finest!
