The U.S.S. Cygnus is perched precariously at the edge of a black hole....the vast, empty nothingness where space and time end. Anything that crosses its border enters a universe of complete unknown. And so begins a story that only Disney's film magicians could tell. A story of robots and humanoids. Of human genius and madness. And a spectacular descent into nature's ultimate mystery - THE BLACK HOLE.

I loved this movie as a kid! Sure it doesn't hold up as well as other sci-fi from that era (like Star Wars) and it's chock-full of bad bad science (hey, it's a Disney movie, okay!) But it still manages to inspire in me the same wonderful terror that I got when I watched it aged 5! The robot, Maximillian- creepiest bad guy OF ALL TIME!!! Love it!

THE BLACK HOLE: I watched this suspencefull sci-fi years ago and I forgot just how good it really is. Having watched it again last week after receiving a rental from Quickflix, I was surprised how much of the movie I had forgotten and I felt like I was watching a new release. This sci-fi has plenty of drama and personality interplay, even amongst various kinds of robots with attitude. There is an ample amount of action too. The SFX do not seem dated at all and it looks like a recent movie. I highly recommend it to a wide range of viewing tastes.

I think the story was a bit weak and tried to crush too much of a story into not enough time. Some more character development wouldnt' have gone astray. The effects are nice and it's a decent film for kids to enjoy.

A story which combines science (With a capital S) with religion (Of a sort) and high drama. Watch how the main female character goes from adoration to dislike and back to almost admiration of Maximillian Schell. Well worth the watch. Look for a youngish Ernest Borgnine! One of the first High Tech/Special Effects SF movies made by disney.

Wow ... where do I begin? The acting - first class acadamy award stuff, the effects - mindblowing special effects wizardry, the storyline? - a complex web of interlacing themse laced together in a clever patchwork of love and hate, intrigue and suspence. Something for everyone, a movie for its generation. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll run out and buy your own copy and one for a friend. Just DO IT!!!
