Director: Howard Hawks
Actors: Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Dorothy Malone, Martha Vickers

L.A. private eye Philip Marlowe (Humphrey Bogart) takes on a blackmail case...and follows a trail peopled with murderers, pornographers, nightclub rogues, the spoiled rich and more. But Raymond Chandler's legendary gumshoe solves it in hard-boiled style - and style is what The Big Sleep is all about. Director Howard Hawks serves up snappy character encounters (particularly those of Bogart and Lauren Bacall), brisk pace and atmosphere galore. This whodunit supreme is unpredictable and the furious pace at which the plot unfolds leads to one of the most intense, nail biting scenes you will ever see.

They don't make movies like this anymore - great movie, good plot, interesting cast. Anyone who enjoys a detective mystery will enjoy this.

A very good movie, but dont be too sleepy when you see it because it takes a bit of concentration to stay right on top of proceedings. Bogey and Bacall do a geat job and its a top movie.

I loved it. The story is well written, keeping the viewer in suspense until the end. As always, Humphrey Bogart's acting is excellent, Bacall looks glamorous, and it's fun to look at the old cars, phones and other items for the 40s. Great movie, great actors.

Wonderful vintage hollywood, where every scene counts and entertains. Good place to get to know 'Bogie and Bacall', and then all their other films of that era.

Deservedly a classic...complex and convoluted plot, excellent character development by Bogart & Bacall...hardly dated at all.
