Director: Ken Kwapis
Actors: Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, Kristen Bell

Based on the inspiring true story that captured the hearts of people across the world, the rescue adventure Big Miracle tells the amazing tale of a small town news reporter (John Krasinski) and a Greenpeace volunteer (Drew Barrymore) who are joined by rival world superpowers to save a family of majestic gray whales trapped under the ice of the Arctic Circle. Local newsman Adam Carlson (Krasinski) can't wait to escape the northern tip of Alaska for a bigger market. But just when the story of his career breaks, the world comes chasing it, too. With an oil tycoon, heads of state and hungry journalists descending upon the frigid outpost, the one who worries Adam the most is Rachel Kramer (Barrymore). Not only is she an outspoken environmentalist, she's also his ex-girlfriend. With time running out, the unlikely coalition of Inuit whalers and Russian and American military must set aside competing agendas to rescue the baby whale and his parents. As Rachel and Adam turn attention to the top of the globe, saving these endangered animals becomes a shared cause for nations entrenched against one another and leads to a thaw in the Cold War.

I enjoyed this movie because it covered issues that I care about in my life, it's based on a true story, and had some Movie stars I recognised which makes you want to watch the movie to see your favourite actors/actresses etc. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Despite the wonderful uplifting rescue story at its core, this movie was BORING & LONG. There's no real sense of tension, huge lapses in plausibility, and it just goes ON and ON. Normally a great fan of anything involving animals, but I just wanted it to end. The best part was seeing some original footage over the closing credits. Just fast forward to that bit.

Watched it with my 8 year old nephew who was thoroughly bored. Predictable ending, not very rivetting.

Really enjoyed this one. Its been a long time since this event happened in real life, and you tend to forget a lot of what actually took place, but on watching the movie it does come back to you & as you're watching, you say "oh yeah, thats right". A bit of a sook about these things & I did actually cry twice. Was suprised to see such a big cast for a relatively little known movie. Loved it.

The story was interesting, being true, but the movie didn't exactly grab me. And can anyone really take Ted Danson seriously? Once upon a time, indigenous villagers who actually lived on whale meat to survive would have seen these three whales stuck on their doorstep as a gift of God's provision. Now because of Greenpeace & the media, they have to help set them free. And God forbid the Americans let the Russians help them & get all the glory! I found the movie more of an interesting expose of selfish ambition, political motivations, personal agendas, & how people & the media can become more fixated on a whale dying than any number of people anywhere in the world.

What could have been a great uplifting film turned out to be a waste of time. I love animal films - but I found this one boring, poorly acted, and unrealistic! They are in below 0 weather and everyone looked immaculate throughout the film. At least in The Grey they had icicles on their face and chapped lips! The actors seemed lost in the film, not knowing whether it was a comedy or drama. It was based on a true story and novel, but for me it didn't translate well on screen at all. The best parts were the beautiful shots of the whales. If the film spent more time focusing on the whales and trying to get their point of view, the film may have turned out differently. Instead, it was mostly people standing around a hole of ice with virtually no plot.

Very interesting and heart warming, with a good cast of noted actors. Obviously a lot of effort, time, patience and expense was put in to producing this flick based on an actual event.

A story based on true events is always something I love to watch, and this one was no exception, though I have to admit for the movie quality itself in the year it is made ( this year), I'm a bit disappointed in how the movie didn't really connect with the emotions of the story. However, while that is a fact, it is still a movie worth watching. It feels a lot like there was a lot cut out of the movie and while slightly heartbreaking, I felt that there should have been a little more emotional connection behind the way the story was portrayed. Other than that it is a rather good story.

I am a real sook for sappy movies and this one is no exception. It is a relatively ordinarily made movie but it still tugged at the heartstrings and made me cry a few times :)
