Consummate entertainer Bobby Darin (1936-1973) is making a movie about his life. He's volatile, driven by the love of performing, ambition, perfectionism, and belief that he's living on borrowed time. He begins in the Bronx: a fatherless lad learning music and dance from his mom. His career starts slowly, then "Splish Splash" puts him at the top of the charts and on "Bandstand." He wants to be an entertainer, not a pop star, so he aims for the Copacabana; then it's on to the movies, where he meets and marries Sandra Dee. After, it's balancing career, health, marriage and family life, balances he doesn't always keep. Throughout, conversations with his boyhood self give him perspective.

Very creative, unusual progression of the storyline, really worked in favour of this film. I had not heard of this man before film, and it did embellish his life so that it did obscure information to potential viewers, but this is only a minor slight against the film which was extremely clever.

This was such a wonderfully handled biography based on the life of Bobby Darin. Although it has a lot of embellishments, the embillishments make the story go forward. I really enjoyed this movie and the actres that played Sandra Dee was also wonderful. This is one I will be looking to buy!

The only drawback I found was that substance-wise it was a little slow to bloom, but the turning point came for me around the engagement scenes

Not a huge fan of this style of music, but an extremely well put together movie portraying an era perfectly. Kevin Spacey was outstanding and his nominations from this movie were well deserved.

An interesting life considering he was not meant to live beyond 15 years of age. Bobby Darin was an interesting person who died too early (as did Sandra Dee) and Kevin Spacey was convincing in the role.

Disappointing, would be a kind word for this film. This would probably be better seen on stage. I did not like it.

So it's a little strange which is, I guess, why it didn't do that well with reviewers and in the theatre -- but it was really really good. Loved it.

I'm old enough to remember Bobby Darin and the impact he had on the music scene, pre Beatles, and so I was interested to see what kind of job Kevin Spacey did, not only Directing the movie but playing Darin which includes singing the songs and dancing! I had no idea Spacey was a 'song and dance' man and was pleasantly surprsied to see he is great at both! Maybe a tad old for the part, but if you don't know too much about Darin and what he looked like, this probably doesn't matter. The form of the movie which involves Darin interacting with himself as a kid is a bit gimmicky and slightly interferes with the narrative, but the kid playing the role is excellent and the dance routine at the end he does with Spacey is terrific. The Extras are also excellent and give some great insights into Bobby Darin, even for those who already know about him. I was touched to see at the end that his widow Sandra Dee never remarried and is still in love with him. Real 'feelgood' stuff all round and Spacey, as always is great to watch.

The story of Bobby Darin told through his fantastic repertoire of songs. I admit that anything with Kevin Spacey in will always appeal to me, and was a little concerned about whether or not he could carry the song and dance. In my opinion he did a fantastic job - not only in terms of his performance as actor, but also as director. The use of dance numbers to jump from the early years and struggle to dealing with success was handled well and with humour! Great performances from Brenda Blethyn and Bob Hoskins too. It was fascinating to discover that Spacey had the full support of the Darin Family, so musically and historically this is an authentic piece of storytelling

Surprisingly good watch. Kevin Spacey is always fantastic..well, at least I think he is. Not a movie for plebs. A good movie for serious movie buffs - just for the excellent story and good acting.

Thought that Bobby Darin was not very nice to Sandra Dee, this movie is pretty well the opposite and well worth watching to see the progression of Bobby from a child to his intimely death.
