feel good stuff - very predictable
Lovely movie. Enjoyed every minute. I am now wishing to go live at the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
pity we couldn't watch it all - it kept stopping
a nice syrupy sweet movie, a bit condescending, but entertaining enough.
Thoughtful, if somewhat unlikely movie. But did enjoy its message and the ending too.
Very funny. Wonderful location, Thought provoking for oldies.
This was so funny and sweet I watch this one with a few friends had to keep rewinding cause we missed stuff when laughing so glad I got it on quickflix
This movie was better than I had expected it to be. Some very funny bits, great sarcastic humour!
Life can lead you along all sorts of paths, always something to learn from every twist and turn. That's what I got out of this movie. Really enjoyed it.
Just a beautiful movie....
A pleasant movie to watch but with these actors I expected more spark - was it the script? or are they really in retirement?
Great movie loved the satire. Well worth watching.
Fantastic movie !! many life lessons !
Like, dont long for the past, as that will only bring pain, make the most of now, as by growing with what is, we will find happiness.
Loved it...thought it was a great movie!
Would definately watch again
Too slow for me. Didn't really enjoy too much about it.
Great cast, great movie. Better than I expected, had a good laugh and a couple of unexpected moments.
Enjoyed this Movie, old people going on holiday and nothing goes right for them, would watch again.
An average movie. Locations and merging of cultures wasted by use of too many cliches and even overacting. Great actors wasted too in such a predictable plot. Didn't grab me or touch my emotions.
Judy Dench is a fantastic actress and this movie will not dissapoint
Great, light movie highlighting the plight of getting older. Witty.
I found it hard to follow at the start but as it got on it was a good movie
WIth a cast like this, how could you go wrong. Funny but also sad in parts, great cinematography, great acting. A real gem!
this was a great film. entertaining, informative, touching, well worth watching. loved it
A variation on a chick flick. There is a happy ending, of course, as always in this type of film.
Not exactly my type of favourite cinema. Three stars only.
Fantastic actors, gr8 script idea, sweet and funny movie, loved it.
Absolutely loved this movie. The two hours went so fast and I was nearly sorry to see it end. Brilliant cast of actors. I half expected it to drag on or be a bit boring, but nothing could be further from the truth.
India as a backdrop was fascinating and colourful. I laughed out loud in a few parts and was totally entertained. Would highly recommend this movie. If you are into shooting, action and blowing things up, then this is not the movie for you, but if you love a good story, fantastic acting and love to be entertained then watch this movie.
absolutely fantastic movie, so funny, yet very moving.
All the actors were brilliant, so many classic lines. would see over and over.
After all the rave reviews this movie had received, and even though I'm of a similar age to most of the leading actors, I have to say I thought it was just okay.... certainly nothing to rave about. Bill Nighy is such a lousy actor, he hardly opens his mouth and puts on the hesitant speech in every part I have seen him play, so much so that I am finding it extremely irritating now because it is such a "put on". This film was a very "light-weight" effort, and I'm sad to say I was quite dissapointed.
Loved it! Funny, touching, well-acted - Judy Dench can do no wrong! She's the greatest.
Quite an enthralling story for my age group - probably would not appeal to younger viewers
Entertaining but a little predictable.
This was a glorious movie with a stellar cast and a storylone filled with gentle humour and pathos. Overall, it is a celebration of life and most of the characters were, or learned to be, non-judgemental. It also showed how a new India is emerging, vibrant and with the possibility of better treatment of women and a moving away from hide-bound tradition. I'm sure that this film will leave a long-lasting memory.
A little slow moving for my liking. I think it would suit an older age group more as it is more relevant to them.
I saw this movie at the cinema with a girlfriend when it first came out and loved it. My husband was keen to see it also so after a pretty long wait it was sent to us. Totally enchanting and enthralling film the 2 hours just seem to glide past. A A nice, enjoyable movie - well worth your time.
This is an excellent movie with a basic believable storyline and some outstanding acting. Lots of humour and just about everything else except violence, bad language, etc. That's right, it is not a Hollywood movie, but a British one set in India. It is a must see, particularly for the older generation or for anyone who just likes to see movies as they used to be made.
Alright this movie isn't for everyone, but if you think it sounds appealing I can almost guarantee you will love it.
This movie has everything, humour and few surprises around the corner.
Enjoyed it very much
great movie great cast definately worth watching.
Quite an adventure for a mixed bunch of personalities - well acted by all
Really good movie, great casting. Enjoyed it from start to finish
I really enjoyed this movie. Didn't have to think too hard, left me smiling. Wonderful actors. Recommended as a Chick Flick.
Quite pleasantly surprised about how entertaining and lovely this movie was. I didn't think I'd enjoy a movie about senior citizens - expecting it to be a cheesy feel good movie that will make me cringe at the dramatic moments. But it was actually quite a smart movie - in the tradition of movies like Love, Actually & Four Weddings ... . This is how to do a ensemble movie! Great acting all around.
I was looking forward to watching this film but was disappointed after watching it.
a great film..anyone who is heading over 50 or 60 would relate to this very well told story of ageing gracfully..or not..well worth watching..if you are going or thinking of a middle life crisis...hehe..cheers
Great movie. Inspiring...positive and leaves you feeling good. Love Judi Dench and Maggie Smith.
Wonderful movie. Loved it greatly!
Lovely, complex film about people facing frailty and mortality and modern India.
I you are under 30 years-old and have never traveled outside Australia, this movie is not for you. Otherwise, it is just wonderful!
Definitely worth a watch and has some good actors. Interesting story line although not sure how real it is. India looks a bit too shiny though...
Loved this movie.. the characters are so rich, I can only imagine what the book is like, running out to buy it!
Exellent it was all good in the end so it was the end
I thought this was a great movie for those of us that are older and approaching that stage of life. Shows there is something there for you no matter what your age. A feel good movie which plenty of laughs.
The funniest movie I have seen in a long time....a must to see...especially if you are over 50!!!!
I really enjoyed this movie. It was guileless and entertaining! And no, I'm not an oldie but could still appreciate the trials of getting older and having to accept your circumstances. Some hilarious lines and Dev Patel was outstanding. I'd say those of you who didn't quite get this movie should stick to Hollywood blockbusters.
Wonderful and experienced actors. Such a pleasure to watch. Getting older is not easy and this is explored in a wonderfully colourful movie. Great for a chilled out afternoon.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Made me laugh and cry, great acting and would watch again. Recommend.
Great movie, worth the waiting for. Funny, light and so suited to the olds. Great acting esp the Manager of the Hotel but by all really.
Delightful, but perhaps just for us oldies.
This movie started with top actors and set up well, but didn't go anywhere. There were some amusing lines and some wonderful shots of India, but the morality was childish and the plot was soooo predictable. We knew exactly what was going to happen before it did. Older viewers who are trying to find meaning in their lives may find more in this bit I found cliched characters and a cliched plot.
This is one of the best movies I've ever seen: layers include humour; racism; class; romance x 2; relationship obligations between husband and wife; ageing - all set in the magnificent backdrop of India. The cast is superb. It was great to see it on the big screen and then again twice on the DVD.
After reading the book I was hoping there would be a little more to the movie. I couldn't get a connection to the characters and was disappointed that more of the background of each character wasn't included. Not particularly engaging
It would be interesting to see the ages of the various reviewers for this movie. I would take a guess and say that the younger watchers did not find it as good as us oldies. Certainly a strange plot but quite enjoyable with a number of funny bits. Some boring bits cost it a star so I give it 4 stars.
‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ is one of those quirky movies that the Brits do so well. One scene early on has the cast seated alongside each other at the airport - a gathering of British acting royalty, so how could it miss. Well, of course it doesn’t. It’s a delight from beginning to end. The story is implausible but who cares with a cast that includes Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson and Maggie Smith, the story can be fanciful and over the top and still succeed, which it does.
Loved it, loved it!! First saw it on the plane, but with all disruptions, headphones not working properly etc, I missed a lot of it, so was keen to get it again & boy am so glad I did. A real 5/5 from me, or really more a 10/5!! Loved everything about it, the one liners were absolutely brilliant..........solid performances from all the greats in the cast. Don't miss this one - just wish I could give it more
I have heard many people rave about this movie and, with such a great cast, expected something brilliant. I did not enjoy this movie at all. it was pointless and boring. I have come to the conclusion that, unless you are a similar age to the cast, you won't enjoy it. what a disappointment
OK - But did not get carried away with this movie - Found the Indian speaking language a bit hard to understand - Three Stars from me.
Fabulous movie, some top actors Judi Dench, Bill Nighly & Maggie Smith( a far cry from Downton Abby) playing brilliant parts that suited them perfectly. Probably suited to an older audience, we loved it, Ticked all the boxes for a great evenings viewing. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it highly.
Fabulous movie. Probably exponentially enjoyable the older you are.
What a beautiful, poignant movie. I saw some differing reviews, some loved it some hated it but with a cast of brilliant actors I thought I should give it a go and I will never regret that I did. I loved it and watched it twice and will probably go out and buy myself a copy to keep. Highly recommended, a wonderful movie for all the family.
I wasn't sure about this movie and had no desire to see it in the cinemas but I did watch it on DVD and was pleasantly surprised. Bit strange and weird but I found it to be funny and entertaining too. :) Worth a look into.
I thought this was quite well done. Recommended to me by a friend and I'm glad I saw it. Tells the story of several people who come together to find meaning in the later years of their lives. The location is a run-down hotel which has seen better days. Some find what they're looking for while others may not. Maggie Smith is a delight and redeems herself at the end, Judi Dench's character narrates the story, as her character keeps a blog of the journey. For a movie running at almost two hours it flowed nicely. Beautifully shot too, but then with India as one of the star players, it was bound to look good.
All I can say is disappointing ...there was nothing these great actors could do to save this very bad script and this unbelievable story.
A bit slow to start ... And the characters seem a bit over the top cliche but it was a good decent storyline!
Great characterisation in this movie. Significant themes. Worth watching more than once.
really enjoyedthis movie. It is light hearted but has moments of sadness too. Very well acted and directed. Very eassy watching and relaxing. A "feel good"f ilm
One great movie for couples to relax and laugh for long. The language and casts were perfectly done
I was expecting much less and rented it for my wife who turned out to be not interested. On the contrary I was and because I am a fan of Nighy. It was light and somewhat surprising.
Very refreshing and enjoyable. Well worth a look.
This is a cute film, perhaps the characters are a little predictable - the horrible wife has no redeeming features whatsoever - and the plot line is not at all credible, but hey it's a movie and I enjoyed it.
Almost didn't watch this - fear of old people maybe - but so glad I did and I watched it twice. Lovely story, great cast, excellent setting, everything going for it - also loved the voice overs from time to time. My favorite thing about this movie is that the story didn't have an actual ending, they just went on with their 'new' lives and left us to imagine what would happen next.
Excellent movie, charming storyline. Judi Dench and Bill Nighy are great.
Very well done ,similar to Love Actually ,not the theme but the mix of humour and pathos.
Very well acted as you would expect from the cast of "Premier League " actors.
A really good feel good movie.
Entertaining,predictable,was expecting something much better.
Brilliant - just absolutely brilliant! I wish we could get more like this.
Loved it! Can relate! Love the Hotel Manager!!
What Can I Say, About This Movie - The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It was a truly exciting, memoriable and feel-good movie which left an impression on us all. Makes one, reviews one's life and what make that individual special, not material items.
Judi Dench, came to life within this movie and it was a pleasure to watch. Even made myself think and trust, that when I hit my golden-years, I would be able to do, as much as these individuals did, in India.
Highly, Highly and highly reconmend, for the mature folks. Bare in mind, to allow yourself a few hours spare, along with some treats, too.
For the calibre of actors in the movie, a little uninteresting. Judi Dench plays a wonderful part, but movie lacked enthusiasm on my part.
Better than I expected. In the same sort of sphere as other British rom-coms like Love Actually, except all the main characters are over 55's. But there are a few younger ones too, such as the hotel manager & his girlfriend. Beautifully shot, doing justice to both the poverty, chaos & sheer amazingness of this rapidly emerging country.
A movie that had a lot of potential: interesting scenario, good cast, exotic location. It starts well and picks up pace towards the end, but in between is mainly a drag. There are a few funny moments and some poignant scenes, but to a large extent it's a waste of everyone's time.
Excellent cast - Excellent Movie. I watched it twice and will be adding it to my library. Its a good one.
Amazing movie. Hope I'm as brave when I reach that age. "It will all be alright in the end....and if it's not alright.....it's not the end".
A great movie. Very enjoyable. Good storyline, great acting, very good cinematography and some very funny lines.
I loved this movie, it made you think, very enlighting.Brilllient!
