I found this Film rather overblown and turgid. the story was a strange mix , that I don't think the makers brought of. I didn't mide the photography, but the whole cartoon like overlay was a rather distracting. On the whole not one of my favorate Films.

An excellent movie, looks real but animated or whatever you call it, anyhow it's a good story or tale and keeps you interested and not fall asleep.

Love this movie! Obviously it's only one of the beowulf tales, but still the animation is awesome, and who doesn't love a bit of Ray Winstone!!!

Great to look at. Ray Winstone has never looked so good! Interesting story. Violent in parts but acceptable because of the animation.

Didn't start promisingly but improved as it went on. I am ambivalent about the animation style which is like watching a computer game. The story line reminded me a bit of The Forbidden Planet. 3.5 stars

An OK movie about Nordic legends...not for the purist but has merit in the animation and action scenes...the monster Grendel was the star and Jolie was luscious!!....a 8/10 from me

I have to say it was a good movie, although - agreed with the others, the film wasn't as good as the book! which is suprising. I would have thought the movie would have been better. Also I have to say, this one isn't a good one for the youngsters or even the tender hearted women - its gruesome at points... I caught my fair lady being squeamish and closing her eyes quite a lot.

An interesting take on an old tale. Very enjoyable movie with well executed animation (for the most part). Leave any preconceived ideas about the original story behind and just go along for the ride and you won't be disappointed.

This good for an animation, the characters were life like yet so real, it was better than Gerard Butler version.

It was different. I dont know that i would reccommend it to others, but I quite enjoyed it. Graphics were amazing, story was very mythical/ethereal. Strange... but entertaining.

Good action animation movie with plenty of gore and violence. I haven't read the poem so I had no preconceived ideas when watching the movie. Angelina Jolie fans will like the brief moments when you see her appear.

As the oldest surviving work of fiction, penned in what would later evolve into the English language I was curious about this film. Towards the conclusion I was imagining it as a story much older, evoking such romanictism is one of this movies strengths.

I admit, two reason behind me watching this. The animination (so life like) and to see Angelina Jolie (even it she is only an amination). And on both counts I wasnt disappointed. Its a good story even if you don't know that "background"

Strip away the Wow Factor from the CGI animation (which is not as impressive as I had anticipated), and you are left with a film that fails to leave a lasting impression on the viewer in any way. The film, which declares itself to be set in the 10th century, is filled to the brim with anachronisms. While this was undoubtedly an entertaining film when it was available in full 3D in select theatres, watching it in 2D at home was singularly unimpressive. Trite 3D tricks, such as the spear and pointy rooftop, probably had moviegoers flinching in their seats, but they simply seem silly and unnecessary at home.

While I appreciated the animation in this film, I cannot see what the interpolation of the eternal feminine does to the orignal narrative of the poem except bring the saga of heroes down to the popcorn level. Still you could play "spot the anachronism"!

Once I got past the animation quality (lack thereof) it was easy to follow the story. The actors playing the parts were easy to recognise - Hopkins, La Jolie, Gleeson but Beowulf looks nothing like Ray Winstone - more like Sean Bean... OK but clunky

I know it was done very well, but it seemed such a shame to animate this story. Ray Winstone may disagree - they certainly buffed him up a bit, but animating a naked Angelina Jolie? Who thought that was a good idea? I did actually enjoy the movie, but with Beowulf flying through the air like Spiderman, it just seemed a bit cartoonish at times.

Stylistically a brave move to make this into a cgi/animated film, which doesn't quite work due to the inferior cgi (compare this to 300 where at least you have dare I say more realism in terms of movement & scale). In other words, if I have to watch one more column of horses moving in exact precision of footfall & motion I shall scream! fast-=paced & quite watchable, better cgi would have earned a higher rating.

Vastly overrated film that when the CGI animation is taken away leaves a barebones story that left me unsatified and disappointed. Felt like I'd just watched an incomplete demo of a great new animation technique. What is this ridiculous modern compulsion that has film-makers invest so much into CGI effects yet so little in to the actual story and script.

As someone who hasn't read the poem, I found the movie to be quite good. Animation was good, especially how they modeled the character's faces to the people doing the voices. Worth a watch.

Probably closer to 2 and 1/2 stars for me. CGI was very well done but it was all just a bit silly. Although Beowulf fighting Grendel in the buff reminded me of Borat's nude wrestle...

Beowulf-purists should be warned that this is not a particularly faithful adaptation of the original text - the point of the movie is the animation. Those who appreciate animation will find it worth watching just for that, but others may find it dull. There is, however, an extremely amusing game of 'hide the willy' in the fight scene between Beowulf and Grendel as the animators go to extraordinary lenghts to preserve the naked Beowulf's modesty.
