Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) is a struggling street puppeteer. In order to make some money, Craig takes a job as a filing clerk. One day he accidentally discovers a door... a portal into the brain of John Malkovich (played by John Malkovich, surprisingly) For 15 minutes, he experiences the ultimate head trip-HE is being John Malkovich. It's hard to wrap your head around, because why is there a portal dug out of dirt in a high-rise building, it gets better after the first 20 minutes, Cameron's hair is such a fluff ball... Very quirky and quaky you need to have an open mind to watch this (I think they all get covered in brain matter too) Worth watching

A very tight and clever movie, different to anything else. Cusak and Diaz never did much for me before but this shows they have real talent, but often wasted on hollywood schmaltz. 12 plus years on it still shows no sign of ageing and I think it will go on to be a cult classic. I prejudged this movie purely on it's title years ago because I thought it was going to be some self indulgent glory grab by Malkovich, how wrong I was.

A masterpiece of modern cinema, examining the role of the artist and puppeteer. Should be filed under cult.

Critics have always raved about this movie, and I must agree with them on this occasion. One of the most original movies that I have ever seen. It is bizarre, but at the same time you can completely comprehend what is occurring. Excellent movie and not to be missed.

Hard to know what to say about this one! Odd, the puppeteer thing was creepy, not my kind of comedy. In saying this John malkovich was great and the story line was very different. Thought provoking, probably wouldn't watch again anytime soon but glad i've seen it

I couldn't stand this movie when it was first released but I loved watching it this time around. So clever and quirky and a refreshing change from the typical narrative.

Very interesting movie. I was really intrigued by John M. dancing in the bedroom. He danced just like the puppet at the beginning of the movie, and very well too. Excellent acting by John C. and Cameron D. I found parts of it funny, and thought provoking. John M. was mixed up with Danny Devito as the jewel thief in Romancing the Stone. And could you imagine Charlie Sheen looking like that in his old age? I don't think so but you will have to watch the movie to see what I mean.

Just watched this again for the first time in years. It hasn't palled at all. Quirky moving, funny, imaginative... pick a complimentary adjective. One of the joys of the film is that Jonze didn't feel the need to explain everything (James Cameron take note). Uniformly great performances - the first time I saw it was the first time I realised Diaz really can act. Worth another look if you haven't seen it since 1999.

I almost understood what was supposed to be going on, but never got a full handle on it: too many people being other people from time to time and place to place. Watch it if you like psychomagic and can handle confusion, but watch something else if you just want entertainment.

A storyline all of its own. At times like watching a living dream with more than a dose of weirdness in both the characters and their surrounds held together with enough emotion to make it dramatic. A big tick.

An old favourite I'm always glad to revisit. Great dialogue, and a brilliant sense of the absurd. If you haven't been exposed to this one then put it on your list.

I just wonder if you wrote a script like this and the person who its about says no! I'm so glad that John Malkovich accepted the role... Its an instant classic that has you laughing, confused, bewildered and just outright in shock. I just couldn't stop laughing when Cameron Diaz wanted to be a lesbian! Just Gold this film!!!

This movie asks you to overcome some disbelief in the main topic and if you can do so, you are in for an interesting ride. Solid performances and moments of humour.
